Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

The one I was on had no more than 11 or 12 in First. I had a Standard ticket and was able to upgrade, so if there’s no advances available it wouldn’t hurt to ask the guard.

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Managed to bag set HD06 on the 1249 Cardiff to Manchester, going all the way. What a truly incredible product their First Class dining is. The portion sizes were very good value and left me feeling quite full. The hosts were good and were out frequently. Hopefully TFW can get more of them and...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

It’s partly why I decided to bail out of the 1310 ex Crewe at Shrewsbury. (197008) I didn’t feel like standing all the way to Cardiff, and the train was just far too hot inside. The four car after it (197015 and 049) wasn’t too bad, but it was still very warm. Having never been on a 197...

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Is it me or is the air conditioning rather weak on the 197s? Both sets I had today were absolutely roasting inside (although they were all quite crowded, other stock are normally able to cool it down). It didn’t make for a pleasant trip from Crewe to Cardiff.

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Currently on the 13:10 ex Crewe to Milford Haven. Single 197008… it’s cosy to say the least. EDIT: Now stuck at Shrewsbury as the toilet is broken. Sensibly bailed out to wait for the 4 car an hour later.

Oh happy days. So it’s probably going to be on the cosy side?

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Hi. Travelling on the 1310 from Crewe to Cardiff on Sunday (1230 ex Manchester Piccadilly I think). Does this normally produce a 2 or 3 car 197? Or is it a double set?

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I was wondering why all my buses on the 26 and 31 seemed to be rather quieter as of late..

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

The reason that that carriage has all tables is because prior to the minor refurbishment Virgin done on the Voyagers, that coach could be used as an extra First Class carriage on busier services to North Wales. They used to be very attractive prior to the refresh as they had large blue seats...

    Swiftie express.

A lot of the ECML services were pretty heavy loaded after Newcastle. The 0922 and 1206 departures from Newcastle (TPE) were all full and standing (0922 from Berwick-upon-Tweed and 1206 from Newcastle). Not sure about LNER but from what I seen they were pretty healthy loaded too.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I think this one wasn’t Avanti’s doing, as I did several FC trips under Virgin on the Voyagers, and it was always collect from the shop on the weekends. I do agree they should at least be doing an at-seat service in First on the Voyagers/805s to at least partly match the Pendolino.

Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

Having passed through Ayr station yesterday, it was an absolute shame to see the condition of the site in general. At night only part of platform 4 is illuminated (I get it’s the only bit that’s needed, but it seems pretty dark and dull). There’s quite a lot of foliage starting to grow out of...

Turbulence causes injuries and fatality on Singapore Airlines flight from London

From a former cabin crew POV: Incidents like this (although rare) are the EXACT reason why we ask everyone to keep their seatbelts on regardless of whether the sign is on or off. When I flew it was remarkable how many people immediately unbuckled or kept on standing while the seatbelt sign was...

    Broken Rail at Edinburgh ,-28/04/2023

Edinburgh was absolute bedlam today with a massive queue from about 11am all the way to 5pm, it got to the extent where it was going all the way from Platform 2, onto Waverley Bridge, along the bridge and onto Market Street. Some passengers were sent on the replacement buses via Carlisle in...

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

Edinburgh service has been absolutely decimated today. Only the 0852 and 1252 are running, with the 0652, 1452 (starting from Preston), 1652 and 1852 all cancelled.

    Glasgow-Ayr services

I’d imagine it’ll take a while to get things moving back to Stranraer after the line reopens, because by now surely crew competency and knowledge on the route would’ve lapsed?

    Airdrie-Bathgate closed after sinkhole appears.

I’m surprised that they are only putting on an hourly service off peak between Helensburgh and Airdrie, and Bathgate and Edinburgh. Surely they should still be trying to maintain the 2tph off peak?

Donald Trump and the aftermath of his presidency

One thing I’ve seen floating about recently, but doesn’t seem to have much discussion is ‘Project 2025’. A summary of what it all means according to the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/nov/22/trump-revenge-game-plan-alarm Normally I wouldn’t be too concerned, but if you...
