Scotrail - Post Covid Consultation - Service Reductions

Prior to the major 2015 Ayrshire recast, the Ayr services were fast from Kilwinning to Johnstone, with the Largs trains doing Kilwinning, Glengarnock, Milliken Park and Johnstone, with the Ardrossan Harbour services calling at all stops between Kilwinning and Johnstone. In a sense, the...

Scotrail - Post Covid Consultation - Service Reductions

Very good call from them, I should hope that other councils do similar. I hope that South Ayrshire council challenges the halving of Ayr - Glasgow off-peak services, used to be 4tph with 2tph all stations and 2tph non stop Kilwinning - Glasgow. Now it's just 2tph with an occasional fast added...

The (apparent?) short life of Avanti buy at seat

The shop has two members of staff on rather than one, with one manning the counter and the other delivering it to your seat. Both are responsible for preparing it. I quite like at seat order when it works, particularly if I’m sat all the way in Coach U.

    Vaccine passport disaster in Scotland

Unfortunately this only seems to really be happening in the devolved nations. It is in situations like these where I wish devolution wasn't a thing... but thats a subject for another thread. I definitely think if the roll-out goes ahead, it'll absolutely decimate the majority that the SNP at...

    Vaccine passport disaster in Scotland

No. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-59225246.amp How utterly absurd. That’s all I can say on this.

    SPT Carmine/Cream livery - Introduction/Rollout

Yes, it is for the best. It sounded like they chucked the poor lady in the recording booth and told her to just say the phrases out loud. It was typical Glaswegian too.

    SPT Carmine/Cream livery - Introduction/Rollout

Yes, I also grew up with C&C, with vague memories of ScotRail Swoosh and the last units in Orange & Black. I also remember the abhorrent announcer on the 334 trains.

    Locked in at Blackburn Station

Corrected! (It’s been a long night)

    Locked in at Blackburn Station

That’s absolutely abhorrent. Isn’t it common sense for the station staff to remain on the station until the last train has successfully terminated? I sympathise with the OP as that must have not have been a good situation to be in, especially at that time of night. The guard acted the best she...

RMT Ballot Avanti West Coast Members For Strike Action

I wonder if the alarm from the catering staff is the prospect that SP could be extended if it proves more popular than First Class, which could result in redundancies of the hosts and chefs. I always thought SP would make the work load slightly easier for the catering staff, particularly for...

Trivia: Tightly timed Coach or Bus runs

McGills 38 can be very tightly timed down Paisley Road West, as that’s normally every 5 minutes the drivers need to floor it to prevent bunching.

    Stagecoach West Scotland

The X76 is rarely full during the off-peak time. If anything the X77 is much busier and faring slightly worse as that is also 1 bus per hour compared to 2. From what I’ve seen, the X76 is still coping well with 1 bus per hour.

    Trivia: Unofficial station name signs

Largs has a sign made entirely out of carefully arranged pebbles behind one of the platforms.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Booked First Class for December as well, hopefully it’s not the slightly pitiful sounding Deli menu and that some trains at least have another variation on. I’m travelling on a lunchtime train (1300 ex Edinburgh) so hopefully there is some form of substantial meal by then.

    Stagecoach West Scotland

Yeah, the E400s came in 2011 and went out in 2018, so 7 years. It seems they like to chop and change things every 5-7 years. So it would check out if they were planning on renewing the deckers. I think an E400 City fleet like what Lothian have in Edinburgh would be suitable.

On the subject of new buses, would it be a shout to maybe start ordering electric double deckers? Granted the MMCs for the 11 aren’t that old, but since it’s such a busy and prominent route in Ayrshire it would look good for them to go electric. Means that they could also displace MMCs for...

Yes, one of several buses on loan to assist with COP work. It'll allow the deckers to go for contract and other service work. List according to bustimes: https://bustimes.org/operators/stagecoach-west-scotland/vehicles SL64 JBO (10420) - On loan from Stagecoach Manchester SN66 WAU (10806) - On...

    Stagecoach West Scotland

I wonder if the 585 should receive a fleet of double deckers, maybe do a swap with the E400s from the X36? This service is very busy now and it always has been, single deckers are sometimes inadequate for the run. Double Deckers get used on occasion so there’s no issue with clearance. Can be...

    SPT Carmine/Cream livery - Introduction/Rollout

It’s still very jarring to see the 314 in SPT at the likes of Hyndland. 170470 and 471 kept their SPT interior until at least 2017/18 when they got refurbished. The interior looked good on the Turbostars.
