Help with London to Liverpool train times around 1923 possibly in a 1920's Bradshaw Guide?

Timetables from that era are virtually unreadable, even for simple tables like this.

    Preston to Derby Routing query

This is fine (sort of). There are many mapped routes that include the Wilmslow to Manchester link (which is what is required to travel via Manchester Airport), when looking at a Preston to Derby journey. The "sort of" refers to how you get there; to stay with the mapped route you would most...

Why do Advance fares decrease in price?

There are no Advance fares from London St Pancras to Gravesend. There are Advance fares from London St Pancras to Higham (the next station), and destinations beyond there. You could travel to Higham, then go back from there - in theory. I say "in theory" because I don't see any dates where St...

Trainpal not allowing change of advance tickets

Are you trying to change a Grand Central Advance ticket to an LNER Advance ticket? You can't do this. The Advance ticket T&Cs state:

    Scottish sleeper tickets

The Highlander (Inverness, Aberdeen, Fort William) no longer stops at Watford Junction in either direction. 1690646998 No booking site other than sleeper.scot will currently sell you Caledonian Sleeper sleeper tickets for March 2024 - it's too far ahead for them. That said, there is clearly...

Is a 2 mile walk (suggested by journey planners) reasonable?

Well, 33 minutes really. 5 minutes interchange at Canary Wharf (EL), and 10 minutes at London Bridge, must be included too. Though I do agree that it still seems a bit tight.

Is a 2 mile walk (suggested by journey planners) reasonable?

The data between Yeovil Junction and Yeovil Pen Mill is not a "walk" option, despite what some people may think. It is a "transfer". The issue is that journey planners are not, on their front ends, making it clear what this means. Somoe, such as the GWR app above, are misleadingly suggesting...

    Scottish sleeper tickets

Can you paste the URL please, or state the date and journey, and we will investigate? I would expect there to be some availability on all routes in March next year. Do be aware that there are no trains on Saturday nights.

Is a 2 mile walk (suggested by journey planners) reasonable?

There's two things at play here 1. The data. This only has a 'transfer' in it, in this case (Yeovil Junction to Yeovil Pen Mill) 2. Booking engines. They are generally not showing what "Transfer" means at all clearly. "Transfer" means "make your own way" (at your own expense). This might be by...

Is a 2 mile walk (suggested by journey planners) reasonable?

The itinerary will suggest a transfer - ‘make your own way’. You can get a bus or taxi, for example or, if you wish, walk. There is no walk fixed link.

Heritage railways and camp sites within walking distance?

This one is near Boot. Conveniently, there is a pub halfway between the station and the campsite: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/lake-district/eskdale-campsite

Leeds to Oban, 21st Sept: where have all the Advances gone?

There is no point waiting for a through Advance fare from Leeds to Oban. ScotRail have not added availability of LNER Advance fares to any of their services from Glasgow QS to Oban for any date in the future that I can see - not even next week or the week after. Your best bet might be to get...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Travelling on the Edinburgh to Euston sleeper service recently, and running around 40 minutes early, there was indeed an anouncement over the tannoy (somewhere between Milton Keynes and Watford J) that the train was running early and was expected to arrive at Euston early. As I have mentioned...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I did the Edinburgh to Euston sleeper about three weeks ago. It arrived around 40 minutes early. I was allowed to remain on board and no-one was asking me to get off so they could go. I left about when it had been due to arrive anyway, but there no one was being pressured to get off.

Avanti not selling the cheapest ticket available

It's a fare that's already in the data, and the only (non-Travelcard) one that is valid for the journey. No 'compound fare' has been created.

Avanti not selling the cheapest ticket available

Southern fares to London Zones U12 generally don't exist. For reasons that I have now forgotten, Southern have only set fares to London Zones U1256. I don't think there is any other TOC that has set its fares from outside London to London zonal destinations quite like this...
