Supposed restrictions on travel from and to Leicester

The Leicester Regulations prohibit overnight stays without reasonable excuse, but (as far as I can see) include nothing prohibiting travel from Leicester for an evening at a pub in, say, Market Harborough. Are the City or County Councils claiming to have prohibited that under some other legislation?

Oxford to Pembroke, Fri 14 Aug

I'm hoping that the Covid-19 plague will be quiescent by then, but possibly we'll still be advised to avoid crowded places. On Fridays in August 2019, were Swansea to Pembroke trains crowded? We'll want to arrive in Pembroke by about 1400. Any advice on which trains to choose Oxford to Swansea...

Rail sail tickets Hoek to any NS station

The ever-wise Man in seat 61 says Can any forum member say how this works in practice? I don't see how a NS e-ticket from Schiedam to (for example) Breda will work the barrier to exit the Metro at Schiedam. I would expect to need a separate RET ticket for Metro Hoek to Schiedam.

Might GWR be persuaded to hold (selected) connections at Didcot?

I do get it that holding connections can cause Disproportionate Repercussions Down the Line. However, could forum members advise on whether there is any hope of persuading GWR, in carefully considered instances, to hold Didcot to Oxford shuttles for up to (say) 5 minutes, in order to maintain a...

Cross Country not offering seat reservations

My elderly in-laws have found that they can't reserve seats on the 1216 Cheltenham Spa to York, 23 December 2019. They phoned Cross Country's assistance number, and chap (who they said was definitely trying to be helpful) said that Cross Country don't do reservations on this train, because it is...

    Terrible Chiltern ticket machines

To parallel the Northern thread, in the hope that a Chiltern Retail Operations Manager, if there be such, will show up. The machines at Oxford Parkway enraged me last time I tried. Everything took lots more presses than I needed, response was random, and going back one step was erratic...

Advice please for trips in and near Rotterdam

My wife and I are travelling via Harwich-Hoek to stay in Schiedam for a few days. We'll be doing gentle low-key wandering in Schiedam, and also intend to visit Rotterdam and Den Haag. I already have an (anonymous) OV Chipkaart. As I understand it, we'll be issued at Harwich with 4 cards, each...

Chinnor to Weymouth 4 April 2019

As far I can see, this trip organised by Steam Dreams https://www.steamdreams.co.uk/tours.php?tourid=72113 is not showing in realtime trains. Should I start worrying that it may be cancelled, or is just that Steam Dreams have asked for timings not to be publicised?

How do delay attribution and billing costs work?

Lots of cancellations and delays this morning because a freight train broke down near Didcot North. I know that delay attribution is an arcane art. But could any forum member hazard a guess at the bill the freight operator will be facing?

    Bus connections at Farringdon
