Funicular and other inclined cable railways in UK

Think its undergoing some sort of upgrade. As far as I can tell it needs brakes fitting to the cars that will come on if the cable breaks. I assume something like the Otis kit in vertical lifts.

    Closest unvisited railway line

It used to be a useful link for Journies like Leeds - Crewe. Ran hourly to connect with Trans Pennine trains. I went for an interview at the college in Stafford in 1974 and changed Stalybridge and Stockport. Also did that line using the Leeds - Crewe TPO to get to N Wales about the same time...

I suppose that area was close to me on 95 when i was B&Bing it in Glossop for work for a few months. I never did the lines through Marple incl the Hope Valley. Never did Hadfield -Broadbottom direct either. But a decade earlier i did do the Glossop line when the DC units were still going. Think...

    Pre-electification Airedale/Wharfedale line timetables

It was pretty infrequent. Mostly hourly. Some trains from leeds definitely terminated at Keighley. There was a reversing siding where Asda is now. There were no Leeds - Bradford FS services. Unusual locations to spot trains in Warwickshire

Have you tried the canal towpath up Hatton locks? Start at Warwick Parkway and at the top there is a nice caff. Plenty of Chiltern trains to look at. Start back in Warwick if you don't want to pay for parking. Or get a train to Warwick P'way. Atherstone is a good place to look at the WCML...

"Trains over planes" report - banning flights on UK routes?

Also if you are flying late in the day, and its late, you could miss last trains home. I could use trains from Clitheroe to Manchester airport but the first train is too late and the last train is a worry for the return. So I drive. Dont fancy a unscheduled night on the airport, or worse...

Why has electrification not got further in the UK?

All politicians are interested in is 'will this make me look good? Will i get to cut a ribbon in front of a shiny train? How many column inches in the daily Mail? Electrification has a lead time longer than a parliament. So there is the quite large risk the other lot will get the credit for...
