My wife and I have travelled a few times this year on LNER and find their system for booking brilliant .. decent prices when booking in advance and more importantly, they offer the ability to book specific seats. Just look at the carriage plans, select two available seats and hey presto .. they...

My wife and I recently took this journey, heading to Manchester Piccadilly on TPE from Doncaster (Sunday 29th October at 11:44) We had never travelled on TPE before and also, this was our first time in first class. At the time of booking in August, I was surprised to find we could not pick...

I am always amazed to see on t'internet so many folks on station platforms when come kind of 'fancy / unusual' train passes by. I wonder how they get the information. I've just noticed on one of the websites (see image) one such train departing from Newcastle shortly. Sadly I am too far away...

My wife and I are visiting Edinburgh in a few weeks so we are busy trying to work out some form of itinerary. We visited Edinburgh last year, so need something new this time. I'm thinking about taking a train journey over the Forth Rail Bridge, surely one of the most famous rail bridges in the...

I was about to book a trip from Edinburgh (Waverley) to Newcastle with LNER and noticed the advance fare is the exact same as taking the same train from the earlier stop at Edinburgh (Haymarket) My wife and I are staying at a hotel near Haymarket, so it could be an idea to board the train...

I am trying to book a short stay in Edinburgh for early next year, but only see Cross County, TPE and Lumo tickets (on RailUK ticket site) Is there a special reason why LNER tickets aren't available yet ? Roughly, when will these be released ? My wife and I have travelled a few times with...

My planned trip .. Sunday 12th November, Newcastle to Morpeth return (1 adult with senior railcard) There are return journey prices as low as £3.10, but the option of an off-peak day return at £4.55 seems better, offering some flexibility. There are several companies too, LNER, Cross...

I saw an article on my phone this morning, about a couple on holiday to the UK. They had booked seats on an Edinburgh to Kings Cross LNER train, but when they boarded, somebody was in one of their seats. They politely asked the woman to move but she refused and it seems LNER didn't help What...

A friend and I are travelling to Hartlepool on Sunday from Newcastle, leaving NCL at 10:31 I have just received an email from Northern Rail regarding the industrial action on 30 September and 4 October, but it also says .. "Some services may start later than usual on Sunday 1 October, check...

I am travelling to Manchester, from Newcastle on the last Sunday in October and had initially been thinking about booking a direct TPE train. In the end, I have booked a trip via Doncaster (LNER) then TPOE to Manchester If i had been going today, rather than 6 weeks time, 4 TPE trains in a row...

As per the title .. is there a way of finding out the 'normal' single fare for a journey .. maybe that's the wrong name .. the fare you would get if you walked up to a ticket office on the day or travel (or used a ticket machine) and then hopped on the train. Does a senior railcard still give...

I have been waiting to book a reasonably priced ticket from Newcastle to Manchester for the end of October but planned engineering works were affecting ticket availability .. something I only recently found out about. Yesterday I finally booked my journey, getting a pretty good deal. Rather...

Looking on a few websites, the prices are exactly the same on three of the sites, but on your own ticket site, it's a fair bit cheaper (see image attached) I think I have compared apples with apples and not made a mistake .. 2 adults travelling, with a two Together railcard. It seems, for less...

I have just seen this mentioned on another website here's the LINK for further information ... maybe useful for a tourist too, visiting Portugal

Looking to book a ticket from Manchester Victoria to Liverpool Lime Street on the RailForums ticket site and get this message. Is it simply a case of collecting a ticket from a machine, or ticket office on the day of travel, or are the tickets posted out to you .. perhaps at an added cost...

My wife and I are visiting Manchester and Liverpool in 3 months time and have already booked the hotels, as well as the return journey from Liverpool (a bargain at £27.90) I have not yet booked the outward journey to Manchester as there were no reasonably priced tickets available. I decided to...

I know there is a website which lets you look up a particular train, over a number of days / weeks to see if it's generally on time, or whether it even runs at all ... but I don't know the site details For example .. York to Manchester Victoria on a Sunday at 10:49 (TPE) I am actually...
