RMT/ASLEF announce strike action on LU (suspended)

The bottom of the existing pay bands doesn’t move, so there are operational staff still affected by this with the current offer.

Why do Morden trains run via Bank?

No, unless the line was suspended North of East Finchley. The only place a train can go from East Finchley Northbound is onwards to Finchley Central, or reversing via the main line meaning no other service could proceed until the driver had changed ends. A train would not be reversed North to...

Why do Morden trains run via Bank?

Whilst you may have mean Southbound, which is more common late at night, no train is scheduled to terminate at East Finchley Northbound. In order to get into Highgate sidings they'd either have to shunt via the main line and block the Northbound, or head up to Finchley Central anyway. They're...

Is Central Line the only line to have emergency train stop button on platforms

Steady arms above the head isn’t an emergency stop signal on LU, (rather ‘stop at me’) Both arms waved above the head is an emergency stop signal though, as is any light or item of clothing waved across the body - (though ideally red)

Thoughts/Rules On Signallers Providing Booked Assistance?

Indeed, it still works that way on the tube. I've certainly left the control room to respond to a person under a train, and often ask drivers to assist visually impaired customers to a place of safety on the platform while they await station staff colleagues to arrive.

Kentish Town station closure from 26th June

Yeah I wasn’t replying to your post, I was posting info into the thread as that had just been made public, (the delay past September).

Kentish Town station closure from 26th June

Project updates "While making the planned improvements, we found that we needed to do more complex and time-consuming repairs. We now expect to be able to reopen the station at the end of 2024. The work to fully replace both escalators at the station is progressing well. We're on track to...

    Staff toilets

Yes, though if a drivers’ workplace were determined to be their cab and therefore a toilet needed, the same would apply to every bus and taxi I imagine, plus on a bike for a Deliveroo driver!

Does LU have a problem accepting cash at present or is this a trial?

Nothing as sinister as a cashless trial going on here; there’s an issue with the room behind the machines.

Northern line train evacuation at Clapham Common

The rule book might say that, but the training material doesn’t. The report confirms that those delivering training reported to the RAIB that permission was always required to operate the outside door valves (see paragraph 123).

Northern line train evacuation at Clapham Common

I agree with you. When I said the provision of information I didn’t just mean an announcement to customers; I meant the flow of information to staff members for effective decisions to be made in addition to verbal and practical reassurance to customers.

Northern line train evacuation at Clapham Common

No - the lesson is that the provision of early information and reassurance is key in preventing panic, the consequences of which can be severe. There was no fire - this is confirmed in the report. The presence of smoke was questioned, whether it be brake dust, smoke, or another phrase used for...

    Train Tunnel for Filming

West Ashfield wouldn’t be suitable - this is platform grounds only beyond part of a train carriage, is littered with equipment and is obviously not genuine (therefore unlikely suitable for film).

    A happy incident, for once

Ah, it was very nice to meet you briefly and I'm glad all worked out well in the end! It was me you were speaking to. If it helps, we weren't working a revenue block - we were in the area and had popped into the station just to improve relations with station colleagues and provide a visible...

    Northern line service levels

You said you were travelling at 16:30 - it's currently 17:30 and the Northern Line is advertising Severe Delays across the entire line because of a signal failure which occurred at 11:53. I'm not sure which board you checked, but I'm wondering if either it was a non-TfL one, or one of the...

    Northern line service levels

Not really. It can reduce platform dwell times to the minimums set for that platform, but it makes very poor regulation choices.

LU staff vote to strike following dismissal of employee for issuing a refund without a customer present

A quick google (and therefore all in the public domain) turned up this which quotes:

    Cleanliness of Northern line trains

I severely doubt that's a reason. The reality is if you washed trains on the way in you'd have to reduce the available engineering hours, as it's already very tight getting so many trains into Morden at COT via both roads, and would be even slower routing via the wash road.
