    Havant Area Signalling (26-30 October)

Yes but isn't 20 years a reasonably lower figure than modern signalling design lifespans?

First ETCS train operates on the East Coast Mainline

The transition from Overlay to Signals-Away requires all these changes whether the signals are physically retained or not, doesn't it? Given one of the justifications for Signals-Away is the reduction in maintenance benefit, I could see a recovery programme of assets in diruptive positions...

GoExpress - The future of high-speed logistics?

I suspect this is the benefit they're targeting most. Is it known what Classification the 90mph freight will run as? Could be an opportunity to rejig the classes from 4-8 given how little Class 8 traffic there is. Have Class 93s been given type approval yet, the main Class 93 thread suggests...

    Greenford and Bromley North branches

My point is that LO would be just as likely as GWR to cover the branch out of an existing depot rather than set up a dedicated link. Neither Willesden nor Wembley are particularly far away and the set would likely come empty from there anyway first thing so the main awkwardness is covering...

Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

Being pedantic (important in the legal realm!), is this the ORR agreeing to hear Eurostar's appeal, making no determination on the appeal itself?

    Greenford and Bromley North branches

Fully agree, and IMO the operational case for Greenford is only there after or as part of WLO. Chiefly because of the likely use of BEMUs. Presumably GWR don't actually train all their crew on it, so how large is the pool of GWR trained crew compared to what LO would have available?

    Greenford and Bromley North branches

No depot currently has serious BEMU experience in London, although Wembley and Willesden may well end up getting some if the WLO units are BEMUs (which IMO is quite likely). Although WLO probably will have additional stabling added somewhere in the Acton/Willesden area, which could also be used...

Balise based ASDO - feasible to make this the standard?

Or fit multiple balise readers on each vehicle, which I think is similar to at least one ASDO system in use (TPE?).

Will GBR have a loyalty scheme? What form might it take?

It will definitely have one, for the same reason most businesses have one - to gather data. The obvious thing is to do a points-based system, although there's almost limitless variations about how it might be implemented.

What Does The Word Terminals Mean Regarding a Railway Line?

I suspect that if BR had kept the branch open for them, both traders would have gone to road anyway within a few years.

Balise based ASDO - feasible to make this the standard?

Yes, good point about Correct-Side Door Enable (CSDE) which is a separate but related part of the doors control system. Beacon-based CSDE and ASDO may even allow the 'priming' of doors before the train stops (as other railways globally do or some UK light rail systems), which Satellite-based...

Balise based ASDO - feasible to make this the standard?

On some lines like the West Highland as you say there's an argument for a separate, easier system. Although it's not just the passive balises - it's the train's management system to interpret the message. So for interim fitment on, say, the West Coast south (which is a decent while away from...

Balise based ASDO - feasible to make this the standard?

Packet 44 Data is absolutely the way ETCS schemes will be looking to do. RIS-2747-RST is the RSSB standard for control of Exterior doors on Passenger Vehicles. It requires use of either track based or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS, because GPS is a specific system). Packet 44 is the...

    WCML substations

That's only part of Congested Infrastructure. Under the 2016 Legilsation: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2016/645/contents/made From Regulation 26: From Regulation 27: From Regulation 28: So by law, the Infrastructure manager must come up with a plan to increase capacity no later than...

    West London Orbital Consultation

Probably not, given any installation would be a new system rather than ongoing maintenance renewal or enhancement of a preexisting installation.

First ETCS train operates on the East Coast Mainline

Has there been any news on when 700s will/did start using the Welwyn to Hitchin overlay?

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

There are serval different ways I could imagine going about trying to get the relevant regulatory approvals. However, anything involving passengers being carried at faster than 25mph will require the fitting of TPWS to the infrastructure and all relevant rolling stock.

Where in London would gain from a mile long tunnel with stations at both ends?

East Croydon to just north of Selhurst, wouldn't even need the 2 stations.

The Gradient down to Acton Wells Junction

Indeed you have, note the entry above Victoria Road Bridge at 13.78 KM saying 1 in 226 down for 482.8m, meaning that from Victoria Bridge south there is a gradient of 1 in 226 down for c.160m.

The Gradient down to Acton Wells Junction

The 1:226 comes from NR's records. 'We want' is quite different to 'the entire project is unviable without'.
