Driver picks up unwary bird .....

Were it a passenger service, it would have been issued a penalty fare

Thameslink Southern & Great Northern Franchise

I like the idea of the stock getting epically displaced, having a Great Northern service between Southampton and Brighton.

Somebody has noticed there's a rail system in the north-east.

It's a subset of Troll Logic. You yourself said that the 70+ year old units are not complained about because they are better maintained. I believe the other common response to having bad stuff due to mistreatment is "This is why we can't have nice things"

    More Media Rail Bashing

I believe that there are TROs on the A38 tunnels banning pedestrians (Are these the tunnels the taxi would be going through?) Once you get out of them, you're then stuck in the middle of a junction with no pedestrian facilities, due to no expectation of pedestrians being there.

Arctic Troll, so the problem isn't the age of the unit but the maintenance? In which case, why put brand new shiny units up there if they'll just get trashed?

Somebody has noticed there's a rail system in the north-east.

There are trains running not that far from me for "normal, fare-paying" passengers that are 76 years old. No one's complaining about them because of their age.

Calls for an express train service from Portsmouth to London

I groaned when I read that. If they were to rebuild platform 2 at the Harbour, would that deal with the capacity issue? At least as a place to dump a unit while other movements are happening? The comment about an easier ride to Westminster; I'm having visions of a chord linking the PDL to...

Ah. I take "Southern" as being "This side of Oxford"

Calls for an express train service from Portsmouth to London

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/calls-for-an-express-train-service-from-portsmouth-to-london-1-5933928 The fasts do more stops in Hampshire than they do in the London suburbs. Is Penny wanting them to go fast from Fratton? Would pathing allow for that? If only Havant still had the...

Passenger dragged by scarf in train door at Holborn

I've had my arm shut in a bus door as I was boarding years back, with the bus then moving off. Managed to pull free before it got to more than running speed.

    Class 458/5

Ah. I inferred that there was a desire to use them there. I'd not digested the quoted bit, which made what I was going to say about hating "The blue trains" entirely moot.

    Class 458/5

I've never seen a 458 beyond Guildford, and I don't think I've ever seen one there outside of the sidings. Are they even cleared for Portsmouth?

Daily Mail: train cancelled whilst guard is in sainsburys...

They're all interchangeable. You could pick up any guard and just plop them into any train! Or grab you to do it. Pressing a button and looking at coloured lights isn't that hard, so walking up and down asking to see tickets and pressing the "ding ding" button can't be much of a stretch...

Stray artillery shell from Salisbury Plain Range falls near railway line

I'd say "Union bosses would have a heart attack if they found their members were at risk of being shelled by the army whilst working" But that may be too soon

Class 455 incident at Waterloo Sunday evening

So, a staff member could be in the wrong place at the wrong time and fall! :P Seriously though, has there ever been a case in the history of corridor stock of someone falling because units have split or carriages have detached? I'd imagine it to be similar odds to winning the lottery...

Class 455 incident at Waterloo Sunday evening

Someone could have fallen through if they were in the corridor connection when they split! It could have been a child! Somebody think of the children!!! Sensational enough? :P
