    Chester - Liverpool Merseyrail Services

I've been saying for ages turnaround time at Chester is ridiculous, it doesn't take much for a train to be running late on such a busy line, which then has a knock on effect as subsequent departures are then late, so the train ends up skip stopping to make up time, it doesn't help Merseyrail has...

    Stations to avoid and why

Definitely agree with Euston, the main concourse is far too small for a such major terminal with no seating, any even minor disruption & you're waiting outside as it gets that crowded, trains are often called minutes before departure so you get that mad rush from the concourse to the trains the...

Your longest time spent on a bus or coach?

I've done that a million times too, the last couple of hours either side of Birmingham are a right pain in the backside when you're desperate to get off.

Suggestions for changing the calling points on the Caledonian SLeeper

It feels like change for the sake of it rather than anything else, one issue with the Fort William section, CS have a day coaches & passengers from Edinburgh to Fort William & vice versa, so what happens to that, then it's timings, the south WCML is quite busy even in the evenings, the pathings...

    Train Sim World 2020

One thing i do find irritating, when playing Great Western Express, on the class 166 service, the section between Twyford & Reading the train switches between slow & fast then back to slow at the next junction, i don't see the point of this as the unit when on the fast, can't get to line speed...

    Worst " Bus war"?

Funny thing is there's a more detailed lowdown of the Sheffield bus wars in the 1997 buses yearbook, of which i still have a copy of.

Your longest time spent on a bus or coach?

Longest i've done on a normal bus is the 685 Carlisle-Newcastle last summer, the scheduled Stagecoach enviro 300 had to be replaced at Carlisle after that vehicle developed a fault & we were 30 late as a result by the time the replacement vehicle came & set off, quite a nice trip though. Also...

    Worst " Bus war"?

Wirral has had a couple of bus wars outside GM Buses/Merseybus war, both involving the main operators, early 1988 Goldstar buses of St Asaph, trading as Busman Buses registered routes on the Wirral, Crosville then Merseybus registered routes covering Busman Buses routes, Crosville were...

    Coldest UK railway station

Definitely agree with Crewe & Preston, also Chester & Bidston. All the Merseyrail underground stations are a wind tunnel, the entrance in the subway to Lime Street underground in particular is a wind funnel.

ENTCS passes on long distance coach routes?

When i caught the 99 couple of years ago a standard enviro 300 was allocated, Stagecoach accept normal Stagecoach tickets including the explorer on the 99. The Stagecoach 99 evolved from the Virgin Trains Milton Keynes-Luton Airport shuttle didn't it?

    Liverpool to London sleeper service

Yep ran via Shrewsbury as well, at least the train taking just over 8 hours end to end you could get a proper sleep, think it went via Wolverhampton Low Level station too. When Birkenhead Woodside closed the sleeper was cut Shrewsbury-Paddington, not sure when that was withdrawn

    Liverpool to London sleeper service

Think the early Sunday services until 12pm back then took 4 hours when they avoided the Trent Valley, & often went via Northampton, Liverpool-Euston journey time when everything was normal was around 2 hours 45 minutes Most of the sleepers went in 92 in the run up until privatisation, only...

    Merseyside Challenge 07/03/20

I forgot about the walks, Conway Park-Birkenhead Central, & Walton-Rice Lane, but my connections were quite tight so wouldn't have gone through as many stations as i did go through had i did the walks, i'd have missed either Ellesmere Port or Chester. For me was just a bit of fun & a day out...

    Worst " Bus war"?

Funnily enough Finglands were owned by East Yorkshire Motor Services, EYMS sold Finglands to First Manchester, who subsequently sold Queens Road depot to Go Ahead, East Yorkshire Motor Services are now owned by Go Ahead, i think Finglands Wilmslow Road services were transferred to Queens Road...
