Glasgow to London during Engineering works in Stafford

LUMO is definitely a nice option compared to a WCML Avanti that stops at 17 stations. I find it's not just the total time, but the stopping pattern, that affects how fatigued I feel. However be prepared that every seat on LUMO is normally taken from Newcastle-London. But they are fairly...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Given that GWR can book a cycle space for any journey in the UK (even if you don't buy a ticket from then), will RailUK/Trainsplit add the same feature? GWR must just be hooking into some nationwide database. You aren't even asked for your ticket details when booking a cycle space through them.

Why are more Avanti Anglo-Scottish services now stopping at Crewe and Rugby?

ah ok that clears things up. i guess, understandably, Avanti haven't promoted this as a new feature!

Why are more Avanti Anglo-Scottish services now stopping at Crewe and Rugby?

I've noticed that, especially on Fridays and Saturdays more Avanti Glasgow-Euston services are stopping at Crewe, Rugby, Milton Keynes, whereas before they were non-stop WBQ to Euston. This is pushing journey times over 5 hours end-to-end. Can anyone shed light on why this is?

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

Do TPE employees work at Manchester Oxford Road? If the train is cancelled will they even be there...

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

Thanks for the reply. 1. How can an e-ticket be endorsed? 2. According to this (https://www.tpexpress.co.uk/travel-updates/temporary-timetable-amendments) Avanti acceptance ended on Mon 8 Aug, but I've just received a twitter reply from TPE that they will have Avanti acceptance for the date I'm...

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

The problem is that TPEs Anglo-Scottish service is quite infrequent, and has fallen off a cliff in recent months. The 7.30pm Northbound from Manchester and the 8.30pm Northbound both have a 70% chance of not running (based on recent historical data). So the dilemna is should I do the correct...

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

No, I'm just looking for someone with more insight than me into the labyrinthine rail rules. And to add to the confusion, I've spotted that networkrail.co.uk seems to show the next 3 or 4 trains as "alternative services" when a train is cancelled.

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

ok, but would I get in trouble if I waited to take the 8.34pm instead of the 7.34pm?

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

I'm sorry but this doesn't answer my question. You are correct that this is Northern+Avanti (Manchester Oxford Road to Lancaster). However firstly, the 7.30pm is the last TPE train of the day. Secondly, there is acceptance in place on Avanti services. My question is if I have to take the...

If my adv purchase train is cancelled do I have to take the immediate next one?

I'm booked (advance) on a TPE train leaving Manchester at 7.30pm. In the likely event that it is cancelled there is a 7.34pm Avanti and 8.34pm Avanti. All 3 trains go to my destination. Do I have to take the 7.34pm or could I equally take the 8.34pm?

Cyclists: do you wear a helmet?

I wear a helmet when I go on a weekend cycle ride and I know that I'm going to be descending a hill at >30mph (even 40mph last week ) I don't wear a helmet when cycling 3 miles to work in an urban area where there are many cars, all slow moving. Also worth bearing in mind that wearing a...

What aspects of the railways does the UK railway industry do well at?

Speaking of unequal coverage, Figueres has a population of 46000. It must be costing the Spanish government a forture to have the equivalent of a Eurostar stop there every hour or so, and a tiny handful of people get on and off.

What seats are specced for the new 805/807 - the same as GWR, or LUMO?

    "Abolish the railways!" (The Spectator)

Just to add, there is only 1 twisty undulating road in and out of St Ives (Cornwall) which gets absolutely clogged in summer. There's no room for a bus lane, so the buses just sit in traffic in peak season. The train is quicker and more reliable. Every time I've taken the bus I've regretted it...

Is the Avanti-run WCML just for wealthy businesspeople now?

Are you sure it was Avanti? The WCML is not so convenient if you live near Edinburgh. Anyway, it's the same story for West Coast/Glasgow. I know plenty of leisure travellers who have just given up on Avanti and now take Easyjet for far less than £80. The only thing stopping me joining them is...

Is the Avanti-run WCML just for wealthy businesspeople now?

I'm still wondering if anyone has any insight into what is going on in the Avanti price-setters heads? We've had a good few months of "post Covid" travel, and it's very rare that I get on a Pendolino which is more than 60% full, except for Sundays or when there's been a disruption and passengers...
