Are Top Speeds Really Just the Recommended Speed?

Do the Pendolinos have an actual limiter on them to keep them to 125, or some other restriction that keeps them from hitting their 140mph design speed (I mean in terms of the unit itself, not the lack of the supporting infrastructure)?

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Aren’t all doors on a train able to be physically opened (i.e. pulling them apart) in an emergency? The doors being out of service for passenger use surely does not mean the doors are physically incapable of opening?

    Class 314 Withdrawals

Noticed this morning the 0846 Glasgow Central - Newton service was a 6 car 314 as usual, but at least the rear unit looked like it was covered in graffiti. It was in Saltire livery though so it couldn't have been 314205. The graffiti levels in the last 6 months or so seems to be pretty bad for...

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Every 385 I have been in, there has always been a Hitachi fitter also on board. Is this just part of all new train roll out plans? The 385s have been in service for a while now, so seems surprising to me they are still being closely monitored

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Talking of the PIS, the information they display seems odd to me. I really dislike how Glasgow Central is Glsgw Ctrl or whatever nonsense they have written. Showing the coach number too, in theory it’s useful, but since it’s just a random number squashed on the left hand side, it seems a bit...

    Class 314 Withdrawals

The 1751 weekday service from Central departs from platform 3 usually, and is often a 314. Im convinced I’ve seen one in platform 1 too, but perhaps only once. You do definitely very occasionaly get a Scotrail EMU in P1

Trivia: UK's station with least facilities

The platform at Conon Bridge is 15m, whereas Gilfach Fargoed is 16m (both according to Wikipedia anyway!)

I belive it was 314205 I was on this evening for the 1815 Cathcart circle trip. Given that the 1745 Newton is now a 385 most days, people on the inner circle got to see the oldest and the newest EMUs within 30 mins of each other!

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

Wasn’t sure if this justified a whole new topic (if so feel free to move), but I was wondering: With all the new housing being built on the southeast of Barrhead, could there be a case to finally build Lyoncross railway station? This would provide a railway station closer to a large part of...

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Saw a 6 car 385 on the Cathcart circle this afternoon. I guess the 385 must have selective door opening as I didn't think the Circle had consistent 6x23m platform length available?

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Just saw a 385 on 2M79 go past my window heading to Pollokshaws East. First time I’ve seen one out on an evening service on the circle

Which station is named after the longest road?

Argyle Steeet in Glasgow is (apparently) 2.1 miles in length, although to make matters worse, it isn’t even contiguous!

    Class 314 Withdrawals

314215 was out and about today, but with a no Multiple working notice on one end. Will faults like that even be worth fixing at this stage?

    Class 314 Withdrawals

314203 was on the 1745 Glasgow Central to Newton tonight. Odd because this run has been a 318/320 for ages now.

    First Greater Glasgow

I too have a question about these E400s: I was walking past one on the 38 today, and the little legal sign declaring its unladen weight said it was about 10 tons. That seems very light for a double decker? I’m sure a lot of other double deckers I see are around the 11-13 mark?

https://twitter.com/ScotRail/status/1098493295968292864 These were today’s 385 services (I saw the 0920 one myself). I presume it will be the same story tomorrow

It may well have been driver training, but 385s was out twice this morning at Pollokshaws East. I can see them go by from my living room window

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

I am a software engineer, so I know all about seemingly simple patches causing all sorts of problems down the line! But, I’m surprised that an isolated piece of equipment can still effect other parts of a train. I had just assumed that for safety reasons, any isolation of a component would have...
