Trivia: Switching carriages required to complete a journey?

If travelling from Saltash/St Germans/Lostwithiel to Camborne on a 9 car IET, the front (up to 4 carriages) is platformed when boarding and the rear when alighting. The train pulls beyond the platform at Camborne so its not blocking the level crossing.

    Upgrade/excess to a rover?

On GWR TVMs there is a notice that states what you can buy from that particular TVM, and ends with 'for anything else, please buy online or speak to a member of staff'. Ergo, at an unstaffed station, 'speak to a member of staff' gives permission to board the train without a ticket.

Tottenham Court Road ticket gates rejecting paper ticket

TfL staff were wrong to reject your request to leave the station. You can leave the Underground system on a cross london ticket, but you cannot recommence your journey via Underground using that ticket...

    Stopping short at traffic lights

Last night I was stuck at a junction for 5 minutes because both cars at the front hadn't pulled up to the white line leaving a whole car length, so the induction loops didn't call for that direction. Lo and behold, as soon as one of the cars got bored and edged forward to go through on red, we...

GWR Castle Class Service not reservable

Loadings on 2C77 (13.00 Cardiff - Penzance) Mon - Thurs tend to be busiest between Newport and Bristol (a lot cheaper than via Hereford than Birmingham), Bristol and Weston SM (connections off XC and ex-Paddington), and Taunton - Cornwall (connection off ex-Paddington for Cornish traffic)...

Football ‘fans’ Trash Cardiff to London Train.

It's systemic, not just to such a situation. Any police force will send someone they don't want on a train to get them off their patch as they don't want to deal with them any longer. It then puts train staff in a bad situation, who have no means of controlling such a situation except refusing...

    When will excessive announcements cease?

It's not going to get fewer. The DfT's Service Quality Reporting audits when they must be made, how often and after how much time. Just on out of course stoppages, on the Elizabeth line, drivers are obliged to say something after 30 seconds of coming to a halt for example, on the mainline it's...

Do conductors and train guards know if there’s a disable passenger on their service?

Booked assistance goes onto a nationwide database, this is fed into a newish app called PA Staff. However this has several flaws: 1. It is reliant on staff actively opening the app and seeking the train they are working at regular intervals. And even if the guard/station staff has checked, new...

Remaining Northern Line Bank upgrades following major blockade

I alighted the Central line at the same time as another passenger, he turned right and I went via the travolator to interchage to the Northern. As I was walking though the cross passage to the northbound, the other passenger was walking towards me to get to the southbound. I stood on the...

Travelling when you know you can’t complete journey

We've strayed a bit from the original question which is yes, as stopping short on a non advance ticket is perfectly valid. But to continue the subsequent discussion, holders of Super/off-peak tickets get more flexibility. So technically a 3 day validity if you start out but are unable to...

    Poor Design Examples....

The standard placement on all in one soap/sink/dryer/toilet roll dispender on GWR UATs that puts the dryer right up tight to and slightly behind the toilet roll. Likewise the 143s.
