Longport Railway station - lack of services

EMR's position was they took the stops out and moved them to the WMR then Birmingham now Stafford service because the Newark - Crewe route has minimal turnaround time at each end and the asthmatic 170s are far less capable up the bank to Kidsgrove than the 350s - it replaced the removal of...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I once boarded an LNER train at Stevenage bound for London for a short hop and the host was apologetic for the lack of crockery as they'd already put them away but came straight to us and offered us a drink as long as we didn't mind plastic/paper cups. On return for 2 people he presented us with...

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

They have no more power or ability to deal with anti social behaviour than the guard, who can also wear body worn video cameras. The tactical vest is nothing more than a sling to carry their things - it's not a stab vest or anything like that. Both the guards and RPOs work to a hands off policy...

    Power mad staff

I would concur with that - it isn't really pleasant watching.

Which coach is the coolest on Avanti West Coast

2009 I think they introduced onboard WiFi, it wasn't a thing for years after the trains were introduced. Just an unfortunate and unanticipated side effect! One of the reasons I can't wait to see the back of class 222s!

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

Is it? What does a Revenue Protection Officer do when a down and out walks in, gets on a train/walks straight into the toilet and is travelling to the likes of Mansfield/Newark/Burton/Chesterfield or indeed the suburban stations in Birmingham avoiding the barriers at New Street where there's no...

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

The trial finishes on the 17th at which point I believe it is intended for the bridge to reopen, at least for now. Whatever happens they've now got some baseline data to work with and come up with some sort of permanent solution - it isn't just Nottingham that has had changes to ways of...

Blackpool North Part Two - a new dawn or false hope?

I've had a couple of occasions of late whereby I've been to Blackpool North and have noted the atmosphere and behaviour of the staff has been totally different to their usual reputation - I've heard others say similar! There was a steam charter today and I was shocked to see that not only were...

Should station staff and guard salaries be levelled up

Having done both station and on train roles, there is far more to the guard's role, responsibilities, competencies and training than a booking clerk or dispatcher - they're more in line with a station supervisor or duty manager of a medium sized station, certainly where I am guards and station...

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

In this case the deviation isn't exactly mind blowing in terms of going via London Road or Carrington Street - I might just time it for the purpose of science! In fairness in other respects I think people would be surprised just how many of the well heeled commuters who travel from the likes of...

Cross Country catering issues Sunday 10th

Only on the 170s, it's always been internal on the Voyagers.

Trivia: most unbalanced directions from stations

Not quite on the same numbers scale but Shrewsbury has far more southbound departures than northbound ones.

    Avanti Meal Deal

Had a cheeseburger on a 390 the other day actually. It was quite nice and perfectly filling for a lunch option with just a black coffee.

Journey Next Thursday 14/11/2024 - Yeovil Pen Mill to Bristol Temple Meads Day Return (Don’t Worry Now Cancelled)

I am sure the guard will sell you your ticket with no problems. Do you carry a cane or similar that will make it obvious to them that you may need their help when you are waiting on the platform?

Two black bands on platform lamp posts..

They are indeed for aiding the visually impaired by contrast.

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

Yes, you can. Via the original Nottingham Station tram stop stairs and leaving either via the Southern Concourse or the car park.

Nottingham Station: Access to platforms from footbridge

Is it? Perhaps as a staff member I have a different appreciation of the assaults, confrontations and other things that occur, particularly later at night and in the early hours. I've said the current situation is clearly not satisfactory, but what the solution is I can't say. For me, you'd...

    RMT report about Trainline

How do I get feedback to Northern's pricing managers, mine is easy enough but only because I know who they are and what their actual job title means, and that took some effort for a train guard some years ago to achieve - luckily the same pricing manager is still in post  I know they do...

    RMT report about Trainline

Which I think is much of the problem - there's nothing in the way of feedback channels for frontline staff either to the retail side of the train operators or to anyone regulating the apps. The impression you get is "don't care, we do things our way".
