Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

To be fair the normal agreements are things like changing the usual rest day patterns of crews for training and handling which particularly for drivers doesn't usually fit in a standard 4 day week working pattern. Otherwise it depends on if responsibilities/workload change. I'd expect more of...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Ultimately the 222s are years after the point they should have received heavy mid life attention, the depot is full and struggling to keep on top of demand with running repairs and so on. It was the plan to sweat the assets as it were for a shortish period until the 810s were ready, it's now...

153385 network rail test train destination board set for Chesham when 153s never ran there.

There are various different blinds appearing on the NR 153s, there's at least one Welsh one now kicking about. They all had EMT or Central blinds at one point. I saw the A stock one the other day and had a chuckle

Could the rollout of EMR Class 810s have been done differently? What lessons could be learnt?

Of course it's not a myth, that's how HSTs worked on the MML from the 80s until the 2020s.

Could the rollout of EMR Class 810s have been done differently? What lessons could be learnt?

They were intentionally delivered with a very high spec to deliver a proper meal service by MML. Not quite to the level the HSTs were capable of but more than able to supply a cooked breakfast. Even latterly when hired to UK Railtours and on special occasions under EMT they managed a full...

Could the rollout of EMR Class 810s have been done differently? What lessons could be learnt?

Meridians can and did offer the breakfast service, there were booked breakfast services on both 5 and 7 car sets, the cooking method was somewhat different to the HSTs but it was still a chef cooked breakfast. It was cost cut. No chance of anything but paper stuff I think on the 810s, don't...

Could the rollout of EMR Class 810s have been done differently? What lessons could be learnt?

The cuts were arbitrary and it was explained to me at the time by a senior manager as either lose the 180s and fulfill most of the required savings in one go, or have a whole lot more unpalatable cuts made in other areas.

Could the rollout of EMR Class 810s have been done differently? What lessons could be learnt?

The 222 fleet is being flogged - long gone are the days of a spare unit here and there plus a HST at Derby if required (with enough slack to use a unit on the Leicester - Lincoln route or the Crewe line if needed!) and of course even the 4 rubbish 180s have left to go and sit at Ely to satisfy...

Train crew actions: Passengers refusing to pay/get off train.

I'm not going to criticise - we are all human and have the odd moment - the trick is to try and bottle it up for later release (but not longer than necessary - a mess room or pub rant with your mates is ideal), or avoid it becoming disruptive. Expecting someone to go year after year and never...

    EMR 170 Allocations

Go to Nottingham, all the 3 car diagrams pass through there.

    EMR 170 Allocations

It's entirely coincidental, there's precisely 1 diagram which is booked 170/4 only for the 0547 Nottingham - Skegness etc as this covers the 2 trains that call at the 1 coach length Havenhouse platform. For the rest they're all just allocated to 170 2 car or 170 3 car diagrams.

Incorrect 175 taken from Ely Papworth

Allowed isn't really the right word is it, it clearly isn't allowed, but it seems obvious that somewhere there's been a miscommunication and either the operating staff have mistaken the unit to be taken, or been told the wrong one. Rather unfortunate but not unknown either - wouldn't be the...

Stock that's cleared for Strood shunting

It's not that unusual for the guard to be in control of a propelling move for such circumstances. It's normally done with loco hauled stock but there's nothing to prevent it being done with units. It is perhaps a bit surprising in this day and age and I could understand moves to be rid of it in...

East Midlands Railway Dec 2025 recast

I don't think they're going anywhere - they're busy. The actual figures for usage would be far higher if it was worth the effort to get the huge numbers of schoolkids who go Sileby to Barrow and back to pay, not to mention the large flows into Leicester, Loughborough and Nottingham for commuters...

East Midland Railway 158 and 170 replacement

The 170s are planned to be in service to 2040. The 158s are planned to be withdrawn in 2030 and I believe formal discussions on their replacements are due to begin before long.

No, some have been trained but they're not accredited at the moment so can't do it.

East Midlands Railway Dec 2025 recast

Through traffic on the Joint line through Lincoln except during East Coast disruption is negligible anyway - usually a tiny handful of things like Metheringham - Doncaster for long distance connection - far more worthwhile to have good connections at Sleaford where there has always been local...

Train crew actions: Passengers refusing to pay/get off train.

Sure, Northern and Merseyrail to name a couple and there's more have BTP accredited private security contractors whose role includes physical removal of uncooperative belligerents. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a "what are you going to do/if you keep talking to me I'm going to...
