Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

I can't imagine SouthEastern Networkers getting GBR livery... Their 376's have just been reliveried so they'll be at the back of the queue

Huge gaps in Stevenage to London services: LNER won't help (19/06)

It "should be" that in the event of disruption, operators "should" cooperate with one another and have ticket acceptance. I don't travel north of London often so have no first-hand regular experience

Got caught lying to ticket inspector about my details, what happens next?

If you pay the penalty fare within the 21 days, then that should be the end of the matter You will now be known to the railway so always buy the correct ticket in future

Trivia: Largest age difference between rolling stock and signalling

2001-built Electrostars regularly work in and out of Littlehampton. The signal box there dates from around 1886. There is still semaphore signalling there but it was renewed in 2023. And how "original" is much of the remaining semaphore signals on the national network? All would have been...

I would have said Stratford with what looks like a brand new Class 315 behind. Happy days bunking around the works back in the day

Trivia: Trains that have/had dual mode capabilities but run/ran on one mode most of the time

Historical perspective in terms of "have had" The MLVs on the former Southern Region were equipped for both 3rd rail operation and batteries for shunting around dockyards/unelectrified depot sidings but they ran off 3rd rail most of the time. Similarly, the Class 71s were equipped for both 3rd...

    Another bridge strike at Purley!?

Yeah I saw that. Me personally, I don't bother with delay repay for short delays like this. I'm just glad that GBR/Southern got her there, still in good time

My daughter is currently at London Victoria trying to get to Gatwick and Southern are showing delays or cancellations "due to another vehicle striking a bridge in the Purley area" What is her best course of action? A message on the boards at Victoria is advising passengers to board alternative...

Do train drivers have official key worker or critical worker status?

Anyone who works in the private or public sector that provides an essential service (that society relies on) can be classified as a key worker. There is no legal definition however

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

I think its the Eastbourne terminators that have been canned. The Victoria-Eastbourne-Ore services are still running I'm not sure whether this is why GBR 387.172 is stabled at Victoria(?) RTT shows it as running an early morning service from Eastbourne but no return journey

    How do you keep cool?

When I'm on the home computer, I have a little powerful fan than plugs into the USB port. I stay hydrated. We have a stand-up fan next to the bed. I close the bedroom curtains 1-2 hours before bedtime to screen out the sun. Usually by the time I get home from work, I'm ready for bed and fall...
