Yes, I noticed this change too. It does revert the situation back to how it was a couple of years back, and given where the main flows are on this route makes some sense if it'll improve reliability. There will still be a couple of morning through journeys from Carlisle to Edinburgh (but only in...
Do you remember if it was coastal at all? It's a long shot but Burnmouth might fit the description, or possibly some of the parts of Berwick around Spittal. A bit less urban than other suggestions but cliffs and old houses with significant climbs up and down immediately made those places spring...
It would be even worse for some shorter journeys. I regularly (probably at least monthly) travel for leisure between Newcastle and Edinburgh (then points beyond) and the fare for that journey would, in this system, end up about £50 return. Which, to be fair, LNER want to charge me at busy times...
The only people for whom it would be accurate are those in the northernmost part of route - Pinmore, Pinwherry etc. They could not make a return journey on a non school day, but in fairness they're more likely to be shopping in Girvan anyway (and Dumfries & Galloway Council would perhaps argue...
In what way? I do know the fares on that route have increased significantly with Houstons coming in (particularly without a day ticket now to essentially "cap" the fare) which will make any future trips for me to Stranraer significantly more difficult, but have there been timetable issues that...
Putting the quality up to maximum, I think the sign says Paignton... which admittedly seems a little unlikely as a place for two Voyagers to meet, but would probably be a less disruptive place to film.
I was travelling to Tynemouth on Sunday evening for the eclipse (boarded at St James) and noticed a fair few boarding at North Shields to go east around the loop - this would have been at roughly 6pm so towards the end of the ferry service. Surprisingly there were even a few stragglers on the...
In fairness, if I was on lottery win money, I'm sure I could tolerate living full time in Dublin... especially given the TSA pre check meaning I could get across the Atlantic (relatively) painlessly!
Yeah, I didn't think of that - I have 4 years (ish) left with railcards and would be expected to get 16 years with a senior. So it should cut the cost by about 13%, if my maths is right.
I'm 26, which means based on where I'm from means I have about 50 years left to live. That's 1,300 All Line Rovers... I'll certainly be spending £2 million (out of my presumably significant win) on that!
I think Whippet used to run their X3 to Thrapston and Kettering, and withdrawing that left that gap in the network? In fairness you do have two fairly frequent and busy corridors to the north and south (Peterborough - Oundle - Corby and St Neots - Bedford) but that specific journey between...
That's fair but avoiding it will be difficult if not impossible. The best route might well be
Bishop Auckland to Stanhope (Weardale 101)
Stanhope to Durham (Weardale 51 - this is a college service but open to the public)
Durham to Quebec (Gateshead Central 52)
Quebec to Langley Park (Gateshead...
Apologies for the rather basic question, but which routes tend to be single and which tend to be double? If the ones you've sent are representative, and the singles tend to be on the more rural services whereas doubles are on the more express routes, then that seems quite sensible - I would be...
Yes - essentially the 358 and 360 routes are Ayrshire routes which happen to cross into Dumfries and Galloway, indeed they are even subsidised by the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. I wouldn't massively recommend this connection as it would be substantially more faff than the coach...
And yet bizarrely, on the very same page, they say:
Obviously it makes sense not to offer seat reservations on these short routes, but it's odd to then imply they exist in the marketing copy!
With the caveat that frequencies are often much lower - for instance Slateford has around 15 buses per hour into the city centre versus just one train per hour. There might be some modal shift but I don't expect anything huge which would overwhelm capacity nor bring in vast new revenue.
Unfortunately it doesn't - Dales and District is a trading name of Proctors, who are now part of Go Ahead. This means there is a gap between Knaresborough and Ripon.
That said, if you take the route up the West Coast and time it right, you can travel from Lancaster to Hawes on a Lonsdale Buses...
I suspect Municipals would also make sense as a fifth category - though depending on the size of council and extent to which it integrates with neighbours some behave more like medium sized independents (Warrington, Newport) while others are much more like a major group (Reading, Nottingham...
If you're allowing use of D&G then I think there's a reasonable case that you should also allow High Peak (they are linked through Centrebus, in what I'd consider a grey area between true independent status and the larger groups). If you do allow High Peak, then you can get from Macclesfield to...
Another issue is that state boundaries divide up Philadelphia's hinterland. Two of the routes that are due to be scrapped entirely come January are the Trenton line and Wilmington line (extending beyond to Newark further west) - both are fairly busy but terminate in cities within Philadelphia's...
