They should avoid the temptation to be less rigorous in ensuring the future servicibility of their toilets by instead regularly invoking the fall-back of expecting their paying clientele to make do with the delights of the facilities at Preston station.
I wonder if I'm the only person on the forum who thinks that before an application for open access paths is granted the prospective operator should be told (in suitably professional legalistic words) "You wanna play with the big boys then you better be tooled up to sort out any problems which...
And a vastly smaller percentage of toiletless trains against total trains in service when compared to Lumo whose managers, let's face it, are overseeing a relatively minuscule operation.
But the proverbial "reasonable man (or woman) on the Clapham omnibus" would expect that purchase of a ticket on a London-Stirling train would confer admission to at least one working on-board toilet (a provision first extended 140 years ago to include 3rd class passengers according to Google).
Probably not the best analogy. The EL operator does not profess to provide toilets on their trains. A multi-stop highish frequency service gives a passenger in need the opportunity of breaking their journey for toilet purposes.
The sheer geographical scale and the lengthy duration and extent of disruption would have been an eyeopener for a great many "normals". Almost reminiscent of parts of the TV drama series Nightsleeper whose plot centred on a cyber-attack on the UK rail network.
Is it therefore acceptable for Lumo to operate without toilets as often as they consider necessary or is there ever a point reached where it is reasonable to cry "foul" because of the frequency of their lack of control, so to speak?
As O.Wilde might have said "To lose one toilet, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose all toilets looks like carelessness." Arguably a breach of H&S legislation notwithstanding "comfort breaks". Was there latitude granted in their submission to operate the service to run with no spare units...
The loopy feasibility study into extending the sleeper service to "the Continent" seems all the more like "fiddling whilst Rome burns" alongside the apparent regularity of the existing resource provision failing to meet the core requirements of the domestic business.
Traditional bus "Checking Inspectors" in full uniform including hat, boarding buses to check all tickets and passes with the authority to "book" drivers for ticket irregularities, early running, deficiencies in their uniform etc. as well as answer questions and note comments or complaints from...
