Glasgow would be a better option than both - it’s nearer than Dundee and means not travelling all the way up to Inverness to be driven back down to Ft William.

No mention of improvements to Perth? Are they just going to wait and do a thorough rationalisation? Or wait until it falls down? It certainly seems to be in a far worse state of repair that Inverness, Aberdeen or Stirling.

I saw in the station this evening that the rear car park is to be closed from Monday 27th Jan to Friday 1st Feb for “canopy refurbishment”. While welcome, I’m not sure how much they can do in 5 days.

Waverley. Always has a busy buzz about it - through and terminal platforms surrounding a magnificent central waiting area, direct trains to most of the country. And of course the exit (now via escalator - hurrah!) onto Princes Street and one of the finest cityscapes in the world.

The 08:11 ScotRail is, as you might expect, busy but it’s a 125 fortunately. It seems to have a refurb 1st class but the high-density non-refurb Standard, so everyone (at least in Standard) has a seat. The only issue is that the trolley has run out of coffee!

Ah, cheers. Station signs are now saying that Sleeper tickets are valid on the 08:11 ScotRail to Inverness.

Not sure what’s up but the Inverness sleeper is still in Perth (7:50)

I must have got lucky on Friday - I was on the 09:51 from Perth going north which was a refurb and we passed the 08:45 southbound at Pitlochry which was also a refurb. I was going to post that it looked like things were finally working out. Clearly not.

The 18:54 Inverness to Waverley is a refurb - my first one! What a difference from the non-refurbs, much more space and far more table seats. Toying with the idea of an upgrade....

Funny enough I was on a Stirling train on Saturday from Waverley and noticed the train announcements called it Edinburgh Haymarket. I’ve never heard that before. And yes, I’m afraid no-one in Fort William calls it Fort Bill. I’d never even considered it an option until after I’d left...
