I’m not saying either way, but often trains will be held in West Worthing Middle siding beyond there departure time for regulating late running services and that might not be communicated to the guard.
I subscribe to the RMT email service and I get bombarded with emails daily sometimes more than once regarding this dispute. Not all are of relevance and some are lacking information especially for the operations side of this dispute, but they’re information out there. Quite a lot of the time we...
I also work in a large signalling control centre and the general opinion is roughly the same 65/35 in continuing the action with the main points of contention being not the pay offer but the conditions attached.
I was taught “Time Interval Working” when I was at signalling signalling school in 1989 and I believe it was removed from the Signalling Regulations by 1992/93.
We’ve had planners from Paddington then Milton Keynes pay visits over the years with problems and conflicts pointed out and nothing changes until the timetable gets recast and even then some still get carried over.
Last week I did all my attachments apart from one in platform 0 and that was before the timetable change brought about by the completion of the works at Gatwick Airport.
Because timetable planners have a great habit of changing things round for the sake of it and the next timetable change was due after Gatwick Airport platforms 5 & 6 were brought back into use.
Platform 1 was and still is a 12 coach length, but when the platform 0 project was completed it became useable for only 8 coaches only. They removed signal T891 at the southern end of platform 1 so if you accidentally put a 12 coach train in there it would need to flagged out.
The reason the...
Route T126 to T118 on the up slow is a controlled signal mainly left in auto working. Most controlled signals that can put into auto working around East Croydon are worked that way as the workload goes through the roof to them manually. Also you can’t have a route set from T118 to T106 (into...
All the closing up signals in the up direction work on an automatic reduced overlap on a timer from the outer home signal. Which is a real pan in the backside when a driver sits in the up platform waiting crew relief without contacting the signaller ASAP then the next train gets brought right up...
As a long term NUR/RMT member and a local rep Opps side and with the news coming out from the top (and I have colleagues that have managed to get hold of a direct line to the top), I must say that there is hardly anything coming out of the negotiations for the signallers at the the moment and...
The VC code we still survive as the Crystal Palace area ie Panel 3 which is remaining and everything from panel 6 to panel 10 also survives apart from the old Blackfriars Area which I believe was either panel 7 or panel 8? With the rest being transferred to panel 6 at the time? So quiet a lot...
I’ve been on the railway and Union long enough, that I’ve have voted against the unions recommendations, one time where the union recommended we vote to accept and the members voted not to accept and the other time where the union recommended that we don’t vote to accept and we did. At the end...
