The One : One Collection in Margate could be home for a 466 - Hornby made a model of that in its range.
It would look great next to the preserved 4SUB 4732.
Now is the time to consider how a 465 or 466 can be preserved, before they're withdrawn, especially regarding spares and operation.
I don't know if it's feasible to install batteries in a Networker so they could run under power on a heritage line.
This time, I'm thinking about the trains themselves.
At least on major inter-city or cross-country services, could compartments be reintroduced - this time with glass partitions.
A few years ago I travelled on a train from Fiumicino airport to Roma Centrale in a compartment that was partitioned...
My ideal scheme would be one ticket with itinerary covering the whole journey from home to your final destination - an enhanced version of PlusBus plus taxi options if no buses are available either or both ends of your journey.
Not in any particular order of things, I'm suggesting the following:
- Full transport integration, including first and last mile transit to/from trains, one through fare from A to B for all modes used
- More seats around tables as opposed to unidirectional seats
- Increased capacity at weekends...
There's plans for hydrogen units based on Teesside but don't know how far they've progressed.
It's a big ask for more lines to be electrified before 2026-2029 when Northern hopes to retire their 150/155/156 fleets.
Currently electrification is progressing on the Wigan NW route to Bolton via...
I hope they don't go to scrap soon.
If a TOC doesn't take them on, possibly Gautrain in South Africa who runs Electrostars (resembling 357s) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautrain#Rolling_stock could take them on as cheap(er) replacements or to supplement their fleet
According to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Trains#Current_fleet Northern has 6 x 150/0, 46 x 150/1, 26 x 150/2, 7 x 155, 51 x 156, 53 x 158, how will their current Sprinters and 158s be replaced without massive service reductions?
My bookings (real and dummy) were all done from my personal laptop.
If I logged into my Northern account, or used the guest option before selecting and purchasing my tickets, I was offered e-tickets, TOD and Royal Mail.
However if I clicked on Northern's "quick buy" button, rather than...
Just found out when doing another dummy booking ...
At the payment stage, when prompted, I logged into my Northern account and was only offered the e-ticket option.
However if I used the guest option on Northern's website, I was given the choice of e-ticket, collection from a TVM or Royal Mail's...
I identified some Northern £1.50 offers, but when I booked them on their website they only offered e-tickets.
I'm OK with e-tickets on my mobile, but know others who prefer a physical credit-card sized ticket.
Which TOCs offer these Northern-priced tickets for collection from TVMs?
We don't know yet whether longer distance peak time travel will return to pre-Covid levels, especially to/from London.
There's a case for peak restrictions to be lifted on a route by route basis depending on loadings.
Alternatively more advance tickets offered at off-peak prices on peak services...
I realise there's a revenue gap because of loss of lucrative season ticket income on routes serving London but addressing it shouldn't mean people elsewhere asked to pay even higher fares at weekends.

Not having visited Maidstone, is this the wagon you're talking about?

Vintage Carriages' Trust Railway Heritage Register Wagon Survey Project identifies this wagon as ex-Southern Railway 25T brake van S55945 http://www.ws.rhrp.org.uk/ws/WagonInfo.asp?Ref=16184
I searched the database under "Present location" and brought up this result
I remember many years ago seeing an abandoned SR parcels van at Park Royal sidings, near North Acton tube station.
According to Vintage Carriages Trust it's been scrapped http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=5154
I don't know if the National Wagon Preservation Group is aware of the HAA there, they've been acquiring them now for several years http://www.nwpg.co.uk/
Surely it's now time for a reserve fleet of DMUs to be deployed anywhere when required in this new GBR world?
The 153s are a start but 150s and 156s could be used for this purpose as new units come on stream.
The EMR 180s could be used for spares to keep the Grand Central units running.
If the Cheshire Lines Committee route via Warrington Central is electrified, then the 323s would be handy
My biggest struggle is finding a home for TPE's surplus 185s.
I'd rule them out for South Western Railway's...
