Your comment about demand from Leicester to Coventry being only enough for a 153 obviously means you didn't use the service when there was a direct service until 2007 (I think) from Coventry to Leicester (to Nottingham). It was very popular and would be more popular now. However, missing out...
Given that Leicester and Coventry are two large cities, then just about everywhere else is 'remarkably small'. Both Nuneaton and Hinckley are a similar size to Kettering, Tunbridge Wells, Darlington, Carlisle, Maidstone and Crawley, all of them around 100000 in population. Are they also...
Just look at what's happened down the road at Atherstone since getting an hourly service, usage has rocketed. Now Polesworth isn't so conveniently located to it's main population area but there is little doubt that given a proper service a lot of people would use the service. It just needs a way...
An incredibly cynical and hypocritical move by Virgin. They do everything then can to make life difficult for other open access operators then decide that open access isn’t that bad after all. Then, despite screwing all the Trent Valley stations for the last 11 years, decide they are our friends...
Booked out and return 1st class advances on VWC using a 2 together card. One of us can no longer go on the outbound leg but will come back. Do we really have to cancel the whole outward journey if only 1 person travels? VWC don't lose out i.e. they are getting paid for 2 people anyway, so I...
IS it fair to say that compared to the Northern/TPE and Thameslink changes the LNR/WMT changes have been a bit of a non-event, i.e. it all seems pretty under control and working as expected?
There is no way Polesworth is going to close. There is increasing political interest locally to fully reopen the station. As some people have said it’s one of the easiest reopenings as most of the infrastructure is already there, the main issue being the provision of access to the up platform...
Had a brief visit to the large Downtown shopping complex at Gonerby Moor just north of Grantham next to the A1. They have planning permission for a large shopping outlet complex to go with what is already there. Part of the plans include a new station on the Grantham to Sleaford line, this line...

I have asked the question directly to LNR. When this new timetable was first mooted, they stated ALL Trent valley services would be 8 coaches, later last year it was watered down to ‘most’, now it’s some. I have asked for clarification.
Thanks in advance as always. Is a return from Nuneaton to Birmingham valid via Coventry with a break at International on the outward journey. Looked at the fare rules on national rail and none the wiser. Many thanks.
Not necessarily true, LNR have said on a number of occasions that the new stock will have the capability for electronic seat reservations. Whether or not it ends up being used we’ll have to see.
You could probably say that about most of the stations in the country. Most similar sized towns and cities similar distances from London have at least two trains per hour to London. Given the size of Nuneaton’s catchment area and growth in passengers it’s not unreasonable to expect 2 trains per...
The time for more than 2 units being required will be the bay platform is completed at Coventry. The latest promised date was sometime later this year but god knows when it will actually happen. Having 2 trains per hour will be a huge improvement and would alleviate the connection issues from...
Two thoughts. Firstly, this could be a tactic by Virgin to restrict any possibility of GNWR expanding their services in the future. Also why stop at Stafford? It’s already well served, why not Nuneaton, Milton Keynes or even Rugby?
It’s very good news, all we need now is the bay at Cov and a second tran per hour between Nun and Cov and we’d finally have what was originally promised! A speed increase to 75mph would be welcome too.
