Living in Penzance, if I was going to Bristol or beyond, I would regularly get a GWR HST to Newton Abbott & change there to the XC HST Plymouth/Glasgow service. Coming back, I was quite happy to wait over an hour for the GWR HST back to Penzance as there is a good pub right by the station...

Brick would be out of place in Cornwall, Dutch Brick can be seen on building frontages around harbour areas when bricks were carried as ships ballast - otherwise granite is used.

From a Cornish perspective not Rail England, BUT British Rail would be fine in my view
