TRIVIA: Operators (other than LT) with bespoke vehicle designs

There were various bodies that PMT built in-house in the 1980s and 1990s. The Knype bodied Leyland Swift was about as bespoke as it gets.

Largest Town with No Sunday Bus Services

Cannock has the X51 on Sunday which was introduced very recently.

Largest Town with No Sunday Bus Services

Currently the whole of Cheshire East only has three Sunday bus services operating - the 3 from Crewe to Hanley, the 84 from Crewe to Chester, and the 199 from Buxton to Manchester Airport which passes into and out of Cheshire East on a three mile stretch of the A6 through Disley.

Trivia: historic joint services shared by more than 3 operators

Service 16 between Hanley and Leek via Cheddleton always had a variety of operators running it. At one point a few years ago it’s was run mainly by Procters but there were tendered journeys provided by Bakers, First PMT, D&G and Scraggs. Even in a 1964 timetable I have it is shown as a joint...

Trivia - Models of buses which have only ever been ordered by one operator

PMT bodied a lot of their own buses in the 1980’s and 1990’s, but I’m not sure whether any other operators purchased them.

Bus companies without websites or published fares information

You need a TransXChange viewer which will open them in a traditional ‘timetable’ format. They are not cheap though - the licence fee would probably set you back £1,000 per year.

    Bus Doors Jamming?

If there was a way to override the door interlock then it would be pointless having it! Faults with them do happen occasionally as wiring can suffer from bad weather or water ingress, and air powered doors can be affected by faulty valves. Issues of this nature are often difficult to diagnose...

    Most circuitous bus route

D&G Bus 14W is the longest route wholly within Stoke-on-Trent. Surprisingly there are passengers that travel end-to-end as it’s quicker than changing in Hanley. https://bustimes.org/services/14w-bentilee-bradeley-hanley-trentham-lakes#map

What happened to route 000 for not in service?

Given that dead running is a necessary part of all bus operations, I’ve never been quite sure why operators are ‘sorry’ about it.

    Arriva exiting Cannock

The Chester depot is in Wales (in Hawarden) so can use the Welsh operator’s licence. Oswestry, Telford and Shrewsbury would be unable to use that licence so would need Arriva Cymru to apply for one in the West Midlands traffic area.

To be fair, Midland Classic achieve a standard that is way above most UK operators.

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

I find it fascinating that when a fact gets mentioned it gets a lengthy rumour thrown back at it. I’ve tried to discuss the facts but it appears that conspiracy theories are more welcome so I’ll just sit back and laugh at them and not bother joining in the discussion. I do wonder what qualifies...

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

For a company as large as D&G a two bus route like the 130 couldn’t lose so much money that it has such an effect. I’m not sure where these rumours come from but it appears that if they get mentioned often enough they become the truth! In reality the 130 to the Airport didn’t work out due to...

And what ‘financial problems’ are these? I’d be interested to see what evidence you have before making comments like that.

In what way is it a mess? Yes it’s basic, but it’s simple to use and is always up to date.

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

Nantwich - Tarporley - Cuddington - Stretton - Warrington is the most direct but there are more farm animals than passengers. Nantwich - Church Minshull - Winsford - Northwich - Antrobus - Stretton - Warrington would be more sensible but again there is likely to be almost no demand other than...

Cheshire Bus News (was East Cheshire Bus News)

Given that a Nantwich and Crewe to Newcastle route has existed for 100 years and is relatively unchanged I think it’s evident that there is plenty of demand for a service along that route. Crewe Station to Keele is an important link which is used by hundreds of students a week under normal...
