Up until around 2 years ago, retiring wasn't on my "agenda" at all. None. Training on 68/mk.5's, due to recommence next week, has been binned until at least June, despite train crew already being booked onto courses. Utter, utter, shambles..... Its 4 years in June since TPE announced they would be using 68's as a "quick fix" to their capacity problems....

Most depressing? Middlesbrough to Redcar, nowhere else even comes remotely as close.

As I remember, there is no "pre-heat" on 68's, only pre-lube and crank. Takes just a few minutes to start one up from cold, provided the batteries have enough charge..... The coaches have a 90 minute battery supply for the vital systems, so it should be possible to at least switch off the ETS...

68022 has failed at Lime Street before departure with the 16.54 to Scarborough (1E45) as a result the return service from Scarborough at 20.34 (1P94) is also cancelled. And it was all going so well....

68023 has taken over training duties at Scarborough from 68025.

More problems for 027 it seems, its 1F74 (16.32 ex Scarborough) was terminated at Man Vic, then went ECS to Longsight as 5H74. The return working, 1E51, started at Man Vic off a 5E51 ECS from Longsight.

I see 68027 had problems again this morning at Scarborough causing the cancellation of the 09.32 departure (1F60) and 12.52 return from Liverpool (1E37) as far as York. It has been repaired and gone ECS to York to start 1E37 there, but from being the most reliable of the TPE locos sadly it seems...

It is being used to train the final Scarborough drivers on the type. Should be there until around the end of January.

68021 is making its TPE passenger debut today on 1P05/1F50 etc. (701 diagram).

TPE are not cancelling "over half their services" where on earth did you make that figure up from?

First have form for that sort of thing, last year at the height of Hull Trains problems, they would sell advance tickets the day before for the first service out of Kings Cross the next morning when it was already known the last up service from Hull that night would be cancelled.

Best day for a very long time on TPE today, and the first day the four 68 diagrams have run in their entirety - providing 1E53 (025), 1P92 (019), 1E51 (023) and 1P94 (022) finish their final journeys without drama. Very nice to see.
