They are but they are absolutely useless for journeys from zones 5/6 to central London. From where I live it would take two hours, assuming no untoward traffic delays, and would need a change of bus. Train does the equivalent run in 25 minutes or so. On a bad day a bus might take three hours.

Last theatre in Croydon closed about ten years ago; a couple of nasty multiplex cinemas, a few indifferent pubs. Why would I want to have a night out in Croydon when central London offers so much more? CL
