I've seen talk of the 153s being kept on for a while, so long as they're always coupled to compliant units. Could the same apply to Pacers if required? I often see them coupled to 15x units around Manchester. The Northern 150s and 156s are being upgraded to be PRM compliant aren't they? As much...
SWR do it a lot with 158/159s at Salisbury. There is often a 3-car unit waiting at Salisbury and the 3-car coming up from Exeter couples up at the platform before continuing towards Waterloo.
Is that a box of keys they're holding in that photo?
And yes, @61653 HTAFC , I was thinking the May timetable change would be a good opportunity. Can that be done given that May is only a few weeks away?
MML and EMT have messed around with the configurations a bit already, I think reforming them during a mild refurbishment to Cross-Country's specs (seat colours, a repaint/revinyl) would be pretty straightforward, no?
Well, thinking about Desiros being replaced, both the 350s from LNWR and the 707s at SWR, I figure those advantages applied to those trains too? Both those fleets are being 'replaced' because new trains work out cheaper from a leasing point of view. Also, aren't the 350s and 707s both 2020...
That's awesome news! Roll on the introduction of passenger service! Roughly how long will it take for the first sets to enter service? I'm presuming it'll be a little while for enough train crews to be trained up on them?
I often buy split tickets from Manchester to London and back, because they're often a fair bit cheaper (student life!). They used to tend to give me the same seat on both portions of the reservation, but last weekend I had 2 seats in both directions. But on both journeys, the first seat was then...
I might have missed that, haven't finished my morning coffee yet!
Bi-mode FLIRTs have the disadvantage of requiring the power cars, which take up space. Less of an issue with the small units being used by Greater Anglia, but potentially taking up too much space replacing a full length HST or...
Abellio have been given the franchise for East Midlands Railway, taking over from Stagecoach. Apparently they are replacing the intercity fleet, which I take to be HSTs and the Meridians.
Will these be bi-modes to take advantage of existing electrification out of St Pancras?
Also, the...
Is there any point in having battery units on the Island Line when it's already set up with 3rd rail?
I think battery units would be more useful on things like the Henley Branch, although I think the 769s are planned for there, running on the overhead to Twyford and then diesel to Henley?
SWT certainly used to operate 9-car 159s from Waterloo to Salisbury, with one 3-car unit continuing to Bristol, another to Exeter, and one stopping at Salisbury. Not sure if SWR still do that, but I know they still join units at Salisbury a fair bit. Meanwhile some off-peak services are 3-car...
