We all have ups and downs. But many have achieved it so it’s achievable with hard work and motivation. It’s worth it in the end. I now have my required driving hours and have completed all of the theory modules. Now back with a driving instructor until I get a final assessment week date later...

Definitely not easy. Lots to learn, and retain. Not only theory wise but, the actual driving and the route learning / knowledge. Have to commit yourself to learning and revising plenty including in your own time.

Baz962. I’m coming to the end of my trainee train driver course with ARL. Several on my course and on the course ahead and course behind live in the shires mentioned above..... all of whom lived there at the time of applying...

ARL (previously LOROL) have realised that they were missing out on good candidates in the past due to them previously only taking trainee drivers living in or close to London. Hence they now consider those living a bit further away.

Well from New Cross gate Ashford is just over an hour. As long as you can satisfy the ability to turn up for work and on time at various times of day then why not..... As a train driver, you have to have 12 hours between shifts (minimum.) You don’t want a large portion of your rest periods taken...

Matt711. Recent Trainees applied whilst living in Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire FYI. Bromleyboi is incorrect in what he says about them moving out after they got the job. ARL’s main concern as I said is that you can get in on time for whatever shift and get yourself home...

Monopoli. ARL require enhanced passes FYI. And ARL also have a couple of additional tests not done by some other TOCS during their recruitment processes.

Just get in there quick.... thousands apply and the advert can disappear pretty quickly as a result...

I am due to start with Arriva Rail London as a trainee train driver on 03/04/2017. Can anyone tell me the approximate take home pay a month / 4 weekly as a trainee driver on the reduced salary (£26,919) after all of the basic deductions? Thanks.
