Striking on Ladies Day (or both Thursday and Friday) this year would cause Merseyrail a much bigger headache I imagine. Hard to see how they could offer much of a commuter service while running a sufficiently robust shuttle to/from Aintree.

No doubt racegoers will be next to be targeted when strike action is called to coincide with two or three days of the Grand National festival. Can't imagine they'll only strike on the Saturday this year.

Virgin's press statements yesterday said that contingency plans are in place and there will be fully-trained staff on board and at stations.

Virgin have said they'll be running around two-thirds of services. One train an hour from Euston to Liverpool, two an hour from Euston to Manchester (both via Stoke-on-Trent), one train an hour from London to Glasgow, and two trains an hour from Euston to the West Midlands.

When the RMT have created the widespread perception that they’re permanently spoiling for a fight and looking to ballot for strike action and cause disruption at the drop of a hat, is it any wonder that when their members have a genuine grievance that it’s dismissed as typical RMT behaviour...

Or the failure of the RMT to negotiate effectively, seemingly perceiving strike action as the first/preferred course of action rather than a last resort.

The RMT are beyond a joke now. Is there a single question to which their answer isn't "Strike!"? They seem to be trying their best to encourage every train operator to consider whether employing a second safety-critical member of staff is worth the hassle.

It seems to have dawned on RMT that their strike action on Greater Anglia is going to have no effect on services and they're trying to up the ante. An overtime ban will now come into effect from 10th October - 6th November inclusive.

Another strike date for RMT guards on Southern Rail called for Tuesday 1st August. Seems a complete waste of their members' money seeing as it coincides with the ASLEF/RMT drivers' strike action.
