Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

110% agree with your comments about leadership. Changing the culture at that station starts at the top and if the top level management are happy for staff to beas they do then there's no hope.

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

I did but I wouldn’t say it was a satisfactory response or resolution to the ongoing problems at that particular station. Does anyone know how long Mick Elliot has been in charge of that station because as station manager he ultimately decides if his staff have done anything wrong or not.

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

If you have a valid ticket though, why would you be bothered by staff doing their job? I'd happily have my ticket checked on every train, at every station if it stops the fare dodging.

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

I read the same and because the tickets say when bought and activated it would be easy to ascertain that a ticket has been purchased because they realised that they are now going to have their ticket checked. I've not seen this happen yet but I did see two honest fare dodgers (can we call them...

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

Revenue protection at Leeds on the bridge for the first time along with BTP and sniffer dogs. We all had to queue to the right and have our tickets checked before passing the sniffer dogs. Whilst in the queue I noticed a couple of people hurriedly purchase tickets off the Northern app. Could...

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

You would have to navigate the gate line staff at Piccadilly.

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

I must confess to subscribing to your view that Eid played a part in the usual contract security not being present. The Northern revenue protection at Shipley always seem to be based between platforms three and five. Probably because it is next to the ticket office so if anyone doesn’t have a...

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

Seems strange then that these revenue protection officials are happy to let those caught without paying to go to the ticket office and purchase one. Maybe it’s deemed less than going through the penalty fare process.

    Do Merseyrail have penalty fares?

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

From the people getting off at Shipley (I counted 11) and five didn’t have tickets and were accompanied by the Northern revenue team and the two BTP officers into the ticket office. At Keighley, it was four from about 16. So yes, whilst not major numbers when you factor in percentages this...

Long term implications of suspending ticket checks?

Ticket checks at Shipley and Keighley today. A good number caught with no tickets.

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

That's happened to me on countless times. Being forced to queue inside with fifty others only for the departure to arrive and then the mad scramble to get on the train.

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

My twenty days will be up next week and so far I've heard nothing regarding my complaint. It's just one big sorry mess at Blackpool. All the staff should be moved to another station or taken away from public service duty until their manners improve.

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

I've been on two Northern trains today and can report no onboard checks but the barriers at both Bradford and Leeds were working, so impossible to do this journey without paying.

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

Shipley has been a bit hit and miss lately which must be one of Northern’s problem stations for fare evasion because of the five different exits and entrances. Did you catch the new LNER morning service? How was it loaded?

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

So too would the revenue teams when moving out to a location and using the train. That is what I meant by my comment.

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

What Northern need to do is get the revenue teams back on the trains to catch the majority out. I’ve only seen this happen once since lockdown ended on a Leeds to Manchester Victoria service.

Checking tickets when passengers change trains

Yes, it happens at a lot of stations now they have realised people are travelling for free. Bradford, Shipley, Skipton, Keighley, Hull, York, Lancaster, Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly and Preston to name some of the big ones.

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll await their reply before deciding what to do next. It just smacks of gross negligence that a small number of Northern staff think it’s okay to make derogatory comments about passengers.
