455's at Reading - how rare?

Not sure about the others but the 2S10 is diagrammed to be a 455 and always has been for as long as I can remember, the unit then runs empty to Twickernham and then forms a 'half' a Kingston rounder before doing a Hampton Court service.

    150002 to Portsmouth

If it is still fitted it's certainly not functional anymore. I've been in both units enough during the summer to know that. ;)

Ticket offices required to offer the cheapest fare?

No, not anymore anyway. Ticket offices and other retail staff should be offering the most suitable fare as per the impartial retailing practices. Staff should no longer simply sell the cheapest ticket without making sure it is what the customer needs for that journey. I can't comment on what...

Do more people still want to travel by train on Saturdays than Sundays?

Sunday service where I live has always been very good to be honest, first train arrives just after 7am and then it's one every half hour until end of service.

Cor that's brave! 001 & 002 are not noted for their reliability..

'Sderot Cinema' - Israel - Gaza conflict

The 'Jews' do not treat minorities badly, the country has significant Israeli Arab, Christian and Druze Minorities who have equal rights to Israel's Jewish majority. This is war, and war is is ugly (note that doesn't make it right but it was it is) and innocents are sadly killed, it is no...

'Public Interest' will allow fracking on world heritage sites

The main problem in the states is they are not doing it properly and cutting corners to increase productivity. If done correctly fracking can be safe, it remains to be seen if companies in the UK will do so or try and emulate our American cousins. I do however object to digging up heritage sites...

How to make a TV documentary (Red Arrows: Inside the Bubble)

I watched it last night on iPlayer and was very impressed, it reminds me every now and again despite some of the crap licence payers money is spent on and their bias news reporting they still know how to make a good documentary, just like 'The Railway' series they did last year.

Favourite South West Trains Rolling Stock

Yes they are currently used on the Ascot - Guildford branch and a peak time Richmond - Guildford service.

    Siemens preferred bidder for SWT

This isn't strictly true, the 444s were initially intended to supplement the 442s and for use on the Portsmouth services.

    Siemens preferred bidder for SWT

Currently the SDO system used on both classes of Desiro (444 & 450) can only lock out entire units rather individual coaches. In the very near future however a more versatile SDO system is being introduced and will allow all coaches that are accommodated on the platform to be released.

455's at Reading - how rare?

I have it on good authority he was in Crewe last weekend. There was a 4 car 455 on the Readings this morning with a couple of 4 car 458s, we must be really getting short of Junipers as they are sent for rebuilding....

Delays affecting South West Trains (Friday 25 July)

It's not just the SW Division though, the Line out of Paddington was out of action today for the same reason. I also suspect it happens quite often on some of the more rural lines in the country too, but the nature of the SWML means it gets a lot of coverage in the press.

Delays affecting South West Trains (Friday 25 July)

I had a message come through the company mobile asking guards in the Surbiton area to get their drivers to contact the signaller and identify their train and confirm their exact location. So as others have said it looks like the failure was pretty serious and they were unable to confirm the...

    CrossCountry/SWT to withdraw quiet carriage?

I wouldn't mind if they removed them from the 450s, I know they do some mainline work to Weymouth, Poole, Southampton etc but it's silly to try to enforce a quiet coach policy on a Hounslow Rounder or Weybridge Bay service. They ought to keep them in the 444 and 159s though.

    Siemens preferred bidder for SWT

I wouldn't read too much into it, Siemens was always going to be SWT's preferred bidder since they supplied and now maintain it's current Desiro fleet. It all comes down to money and who pays at the end of the day, but you never know perhaps after all the issues with the 458/5 conversions the...

Would be RMT leader says rail workers should have 32 hour weeks or they'll be strikes

Hah! 32 hours? Sounds like Mr Cash is merely spouting your typical "free stuff if you vote for me" rhetoric that anyone who is running for office would say. Mean while muggins down here is stuck on a 42 hour average working week and while I am acutely aware that RMT is currently negotiating a...

    Fatality near Wimbledon yesterday

No, not that I am aware of but an incident such as this can have an almost domino like effect on the service displacing both trains and crew. Have to agree with 455driver on this one too, there isn't really such a thing as a 'regular suicide' the police will treat the area as a crime scene until...

    Ukraine-Where will it end?

A number of countries use the SA-11 BUK missile system, but would image the logistics of smuggling such a large vehicle in to the country wouldn't be an easy feet. The vehicle was with a captured Ukrainian army model or supplied by Russia. Their are photos of T-64 tanks seen in rebel hands that...

Bachmann & Farish Europe Plc announces 2014 programme

Slightly miffed that they haven't announced their entire range and are going to stretch it out over the course of the next few months. Also a lot of the items mentions have been already announced. Still a 009 Baldwin 4-6-0T sounds brill and I am sure that the OO class 90 will be popular.
