    Royal Mail discussion

Or perhaps average Conservative Party members are less likely to be wedded to old fashioned communication methods.

What was the scale of job losses following the scrapping of the 2nd delivery decades ago?

    Royal Mail discussion

Why not use one of these schemes whereby you are notified by text that your parcel has been delivered to a local shop? Also I agree with the idea of reducing the frequency of delivery rounds, at least to residential areas, as most addresses do not receive any items most days. So do each round...

What will happen if, after boarding an Intercity Express Train (IET) with a bike with a reservation, there is no space to put my bike?

In view of the inability to provide a workable reservation system for bicycles, the TOCs should simply state that the train does have space for a limited number bikes, but on a first come first served basis only.

What will happen if, after boarding an Intercity Express Train (IET) with a bike with a reservation, there is no space to put my bike?

So, selling reservations for bikes is fraud. The TOC should not be allowed to get away with it.

What will happen if, after boarding an Intercity Express Train (IET) with a bike with a reservation, there is no space to put my bike?

You should have removed the unexpected item in your reserved bike area to park your own bike.

What will happen if, after boarding an Intercity Express Train (IET) with a bike with a reservation, there is no space to put my bike?

A solution would be to change the reservation system to allocate bike spaces as well as seats.

    Holyhead electrification

Surely bimodes are the way to serve routes which are only partially electrified - already successful on the GW, LNER and GE routes.

Eurostar London - Amsterdam suspended until 2028? Is this just clickbait?

Well, actually it's perfectly easy to get into the UK with no documentation at all. Just pay traffickers to cross the channel in a dinghy, claim asylum, and you'll be given free board and lodging with pocket money as a bonus. You might even get a trip to Rwanda as well!

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

No. Limit immigration sufficiently to prevent the population from increasing - currently immigration is running way ahead of emigration. Regarding fertility, it needs to be about 2.1 children per woman to keep the population in balance. 1655711225 At which point, immigration needs to be far...

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

Population now 70 million. How high would you have it go to? 100 million? 200 million? A billion? Everyone in the world?

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

The population of the UK is not evenly spread. To a person whose English village has now become swallowed up in a conurbation and see that their local chalk streams have run dry, telling them there is nothing to worry about because there's plenty of open space and water in the Scottish highlands...

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

We cannot sustain 40% more people every 70 years, because land isn't being made any more. Even if we spend a fortune extending the land area out to sea, that cannot go on indefinitely either. Sooner or later we will have to get used to a stable population level.

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

Stabilise the population level and the housing shortage will go away as the oldsters like me die off. Offer more diverse training opportunities for school leavers to solve the skills shortage, one of the reasons governments like immigration, rather than push everyone towards university courses...

Is a major social housebuilding project the solution to the issue of low pay?

The reason for this is that the population is increasing due to high rates of immigration (the UK born population is flatlining). Last year the government issued visas for a million people to settle here. In 1950 the UK had 50 million people, today it is about 70 million. IMO the population...

Britain’s steam trains could soon be powered by POO

If we get regular power cuts again as we did in the 1970s, people will be buying up poo coal for domestic heating and cooking.

Should TfL take over and rename Thameslink?

It doesn't need to, but why not? Since 1994 we have been able to take a train direct from London to Paris without having to change in Dover and Calais. You can travel from London to Edinburgh without having to change at Newcastle, and to Aberdeen without needing to change trains at Edinburgh.

Should TfL take over and rename Thameslink?

Exactly, at last a recognition that London's rail geography is a barrier to travel in England. Although the Elizabeth speeds up journeys between Liverpool Street and Paddington it isn't possible to travel from Norwich to Swindon, for exampe, without changing twice.
