    Re the seats and the ambience, I think you are referring to the GWR 800s. The LNER seats, while not very comfortable, tend not to be broken.

    York Pullman run a bus service every 2 hours to Colton where you can walk across a field and watch trains from a footbridge which is right by Colton Junction which is a 125 mph junction. It is pretty isolated so take your own food and drink.

    When the LNER Class 91 sets were painted in their present livery, passengers who were not rail savvy would refer to them as "those new comfy ones". The Class 158 still feels like a modern train despite being built in the 1980s.
