    TFW Recruitment

Having browsed myself and having done some homework, would this be Crewe? I've observed that often TFW have recruited for Qualified Crewe but everywhere else is Trainee. And if TFW/Acorn are gatekeeping their jobs like this, then other people will be put off. Lots of Qualified Driver calls on...

    TFW Recruitment

Hi @TeaTrain. I myself have little working with the railway. However, I have spoken to my friend who is the one looking to 'escape his current mob' and move to TFW. He works as traincrew (not driver) for his current employer and has been so for a number of years. Although not a spotless...

WMT - Trainee Senior Conductor - Coventry (talent pool)

Butch - it gets better. In autumn 2019 they opened up jobs on their site for spaces at a couple of depots. It transpires that some already-employees had applied for internal transfer to these depots. WMT then for fun decided to withdraw the vacancies and left the already-WMT-employees high and...

    TFW Recruitment

Question re TFW recruitment policy. Is there a reason why when they advertise 'trainee x' (like, trainee train conductors) they discriminate against qualifieds / people already working on the railway? If someone was looking for a new start, and were willing (and ABLE) to relocate as needed...

WMT - Trainee Senior Conductor - Coventry (talent pool)

Careful getting your hopes up here with this tenuous advert. Abellio WMT have been known to, basically seriously cock these sort of things up.

Managing for Attendance - Impact on applying for trainee driver role at GTR?

Yes, my insider tells me his TOC is the same - two days/periods and boom, stage one. Turns out it was used, as anything humanely possible was, to keep the guards (save a token few) from trainee driver roles. TOC in question preferred outsiders.

Managing for Attendance - Impact on applying for trainee driver role at GTR?

Depends on what grade you are now and the nature of your TOC I guess. One TOC deliberatly banged their guards off trainee driver apps for being on MFA stage one.

    Previous experience before applying

Mixed thoughts. RE Drivers - depends on the toc and the malice of the TOC in question. Two TOCs that run side by side have almost mirror mirror attitudes: the first TOC is almost dead set against allowing guards to proceed (it allows a token handful to act as a dangling carrot) but otherwise...

Living outside the 60 Minute required area.

TOCs can be very very strange creatures on this score. I totally am for the 60min arrangement - it's fatigue management. Some depots have a 3am start. So you'd have to be waking up at 130am to get dressed etc and then do an hour's commute to be booking on. And then prior to that, you'd be...

    Remaining DOO disputes?

What performance loss though? I have read that perhaps ten to twenty seconds a stop could be saved through DOO. However to me this is bean counting and not practical. First of all, a guard steps down to physically ensure that their train is placed correctly on the platform (and that they are...

    Remaining DOO disputes?

Just a quick note for the correspondent's original question, as to which and what strikes are live. WMR's is in strange territory at the moment. On one hand they have supposedly 'successfully dealt' with RMT and the guards (though I am informed that day to day relations are still somewhat...

RMT Ballot Scotrail Members For Strike Action

Not the best time for a strike and I think the membership have realised this. While Abellio as a TOC owner across the UK are dreadful, striking when rail staff have not been furloughed, kept their same basic pay and contracted hours while often on less working hours....is not a good move. If you...

    Working your way up?

"Guard will put you in good steed to become a driver". Mixed. Depends which TOC. One TOC has become infamous for taking on outside-industry and shafting its guards grade massively regarding promotions. Then again, they've been turning the screw on the conductor grade since they took over and...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

The fact that they cannot couple upto 172s/170s will cause issues on the Snow Hill lines when introduced. Someone asked if any of the WMT diesel services have splits in them - they do actually. At Snow Hill the 1800 off Kidderminster is usually a 5 or a 6 coach set and has been running around...

    WMT recruiting

WMT want enhanced for some reason which has aggrieved a lot of people as they have been passed on other TOCs such as GWR.

    Drunk depot driver sentenced

This. Have only ever had medical testing on joining and as part of investigation for a minor incident, but never randomly requested in a good few years.

    Tissue begging on trains

This is happening in Birmingham too, focused on the Cross City and Snow Hill commuter lines. BTP already in operation to stop it.

WMT franchise at risk as well?

Can confirm this. They have a high rate of sickness for traincrew from stress and other issues plus rest day working not as actively taken up as used to be. Staff turnover also surprisingly fluid for the industry. GWR and XC majorly take staff looking to leave WMT, especially train managers.

    TfW Trainee Conductor

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I recently applied for TC at TfW, via two roles. Heard nothing for a few months, but no rejection letter so no news better than bad news. Recently I was given the account for a "mini SCAAT" test and an email asking me if I could write back to them...
