Would not recommend Worcestershire Pathway split as fewer trains serve there. Without looking up this specific journey, Cheltenham Spa, Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway are worth looking at as potential split points, probably only use one of the Bristols
I fully agree. I decided to change trains at Newport yesterday on the return portion of an Exeter St Davids to Cardiff Central 8A off-peak return. Changing trains is obviously not a BoJ but can make it look like there was one. My reason for changing was a traction related one - I wanted a ride...
Correct - but the XC guard showed good fares knowledge the other day in passing an 8A off-peak return (priced by TFW) from Exeter St Davids to Cardiff Central leaving at 08.27 without any comment or query. I have the restriction code printout just in case but not needed
If same price, might as well just sell returns, and either use or throw away return portion as per your needs. This happened to me a few years ago at Glasgow Central, I asked for a single to Exhibition Centre and was given a return, as it was all there was/the same price.
I can't get any cheaper, or match your price for any other journey I can think of. I've tried the usual suspects.
With your railcard, the best alternative I can find if you want to vary your journey is
Ryde Esplanade to Ryde Pier Head Sunday Single or Evening Single both 95p.
Nothing else I...
Certainly not me - I didn't understand the magnitude of difference, and thanks for explaining it. Although I do retain my view that the concept of 'signing' is too restrictive.
OK, but there were trains parked up next to ours (we were going southbound) - if not 'depot' then maybe 'sidings' or 'trainshed' but it was under cover and there were trains parked up out of us
It's difficult to get full insight into any job one doesn't do - and I am not a train driver. The perceived similarity is that both are driving roles, hence why I thought if a coach driver doesn't have to sign the M1 as opposed to the M6, why would a train driver have to sign the ECML as opposed...
I was in the depot at Queen's Park on a Bakerloo line train the other day waiting for a signal. It seemed the holding point

How does the situation with train driver route knowledge differ from coach and bus driver requirements in the UK?
No I don't. It's frankly frightening that trains can be on same platform at similar time and the consequences of a minor error are so great. Not everyone is knowledgeable like us
