    Delay costs from bridge strikes

Just for context on the incident in Conwy, there was a report in the local press yesterday, although it did not mention the rail disruption. The roadway across the bridge is a very narrow, and it looked as though there was substantial damage to one parapet. It has now been closed by the County...

    Delay costs from bridge strikes

I was caught up in the aftermath of a bridge strike at Conwy yesterday, sitting in the platform at Llandudno Junction for well over an hour before being de-trained and sent to wait for a bus. Such events obviously cause huge and expensive disruption - the initial investigation and clearing if...

What triggers the signals to change to danger (red)

To follow (logically?) from this, and as they have already been mentioned, how do axle counters work, given that trains have differing numbers of axles? Is it something programmed from the train description (eg 1M65)?

    Chester Station Tap

This is really good news - their pub in the city is terrific, and also carries a good range of cider, so I assume this will be the same. Are they going to be doing food as well?

TFW Holyhead to Chester next week

Yes, it is a pain in the ….. No idea why they have not bothered to announce it. And with the Easter holidays coming up the trains either side are going to be packed, plus many pax who will turn up for it and assume it is running as usual.

TFW Holyhead to Chester next week

Trying to book a trip to Liverpool from Bangor next Monday, and the earliest train we can do with a 2-together railcard leaves Bangor 1109, which doesn’t get us there until lunchtime. What has happened to the 1003 Holyhead to Birmingham? Not showing on journey planners or RTT. Thanks, Phil

    Station pubs (part two?)

I see that the excellent Doric Arch at Euston are advertising that they have a machine to can beers on site, so you can take your favourite tipple with you onto the train. We are travelling through Euston in a couple of weeks, so I will report back.

    Pakistan Trip Report + Photos

When I was there in the early 1990s, there was still steam on some routes, in particular in Punjab. Never travelled by train in Pakistan, but have done plenty in India. I was surprised there was nowhere to change money at Islamabad international, my last visit was about 2005 and there were...

Well yes, for those of us in the know. But not for people who may be standing in standard when seats are available.

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Travelled down to Cardiff in 197121 Monday, and what would have been Standard Plus was very impressive - the seat comfort was on a different level. One toilet was locked out though. Two observations. Many people do not know the area does not carry a surcharge, and looked in and walked out again...

TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

Well, had my first trip up from Cardiff to Bangor on the 1722 last night. Mark 4 and I have to say it was superb. The guard wouldn’t let me upgrade until he was sure the catering was on (from Newport), and with a senior railcard it only cost £21 something. Very comfortable seat, excellent host...
