Same for me but with Amex. I wonder if you have to use it for it to renew. So I bought another £50 to add to the £600 I bought the previous month ! 10% saving means that with my railcard I get 43.3% off the full price tickets ? Or have I got the maths wrong ?
Thanks. I have had other purchases held for manual review and fraud checks - its a pain having to call the card company but unfortunately its just the world we live in ! Thankfully house theft has fallen as there are just too many cameras around ! Hopefully the same will occur with credit card...
Thank you thats very useful to know. I spend way more than £500 a year , probably more like £1,500+ for myself and my partner so will make multiple £500 purchases.
So just so I have got this right my LNER credit balance can exceed £500 ?
Thanks.
I am making use of my AMEX offer for 10% off purchases with LNER. Does not seem to be a limit on the amount I can purchase and I am assuming I can also buy a voucher to the maximum value of £500 before the offer finishes so will make use of this as well a few days before the offer expires...
I received an offer on my BA AMEX card for 10% off purchases with LNER. I have looked through the terms and conditions with AMEX and cant see any restriction on spend using my AMEX to buy LNER tickets so I went to purchase a voucher using the LNER app. So I looked online and found it and was...
I’ve bought one on board a crosscountry train - eventually when the train manager found it on his ticket machine. It took a while - he said I could take a picture of the screen so I could show other train managers !
- will see if I can find it.

I have bought but I they are called...
Presumably an
ENCTS card along with the concessionary Derbyshire wayfarer ticket.
However I have never encountered a person on the ticket barrier ever checking my railcard ! So don’t expect they will be interested in an ENCTS bus pass !
I would be more interested in what the train manager...
Agree it’s a mess ! Hopefully we will
eventually see some clarity and consistency of application. Also a system that is fair and reasonable.
However I doubt it based on the current system rules / application and how the new system appears to being rolled out !
Thanks for the update. I too managed to get some senior scratchcards and also noted that the staff are still receiving changes to guidance regarding the senior concession scratchcard. They said :
1. They have been told that a valid senior railcard OR 'gold card' is required. Gold card I think is...
Thanks for the info - I didn’t know ! Just been to get my £8 senior for this Saturday and was told from Sunday it’s £11.35 !
Apparently this is supposed to be a third off the full fare - I actually make it 37% but that’s no consolation !! My current discount is 50% ( £16 versus £8).
Also...
Thanks. Must improve my maths ! I am looking at my Amex cards to see if I can locate the LNER offer. The one I have checked so far does not include it !
So I went back to Avanti and said I thought it should be £9.56
A few days later they said they had sent it to somewhere else for review. Then a while later they send me an email saying in fact it’s 61 minutes late and rather than £8.22 , it should be £16.41 , so they are sending me an...
