TPE are not recruiting in a discriminatory way (either positive or negative). The first notion the company gets of the sex or appearance of a candidate is when they pitch up with OPC.
HR do not decide who gets a job they are not the hiring managers.
Although if you’re name happens to be Jake...
Good question. Although an equally fair question to LNER would be: Would they have had enough crew trained had Hitachi actually delivered on time? And how ‘lucky’ an escape was it?
Yes, please accept my apologies I actually didn’t consider the endorsement (so 5 years). You are legally bound to declare it, but please still go for it if it’s what you really want
Mention it on your covering letter, explain that you are now a changed person etc..... Everyone deserves another...
Quite right, accuracy is most important, then speed. With over 1900 applications so far there has to be a way of reducing the numbers to a manageable level. Someone with 100% in 4 mins will get through ahead of someone with 90% in 2 mins.
In terms of speed required (someone has estimated 3 mins...
It is, unfortunately, going to get worse before it starts to get better. The numbers v time just don’t add up. And there’s little appetite to take a hit and really focus training on specific areas; instead scatter-gunning training. But also an awful lot of quite deliberate and unnecessary...
Gay, straight, black, white, Rangers or Celtic; if you do your job, look out for your mates/colleagues and be a team player you’ll get on just fine.
You’ll probably find no one even gives your sexuality a second thought.
Don’t know if I can add much to the above. Except that our company has more than one driver with dyslexia.
It can be challenging but with the right level of support and the right attitude from the driver the condition is no bar to a successful driving career. For instance, among other things...
Sound advice Sarah. Although i hear it’s not necessarily a case of ‘someone always watching’ but more ‘being stupid, going too far and making it obvious’.
It’s a highly sought after job with responsibility don’t **** waste it.
I know of two ex Area Radar who went signaller, one with NR the other with LU. Both seemed to transition well. If you like PM me with how he can get in touch. Can’t promise though as I haven’t asked him yet.
I believe the TPE interview score is valid for 6 months. After which if a vacancy arises you’d have to interview again.
I have heard of some who applied for TPE be in a holding pool for longer but past the 6 month point were re-interviewed.
Disclaimer though, some of the current intake of...

Accept the position and go for the interview with TOC 2. Don’t have tell one about the other at all. If you get 2 job offers you are in a great place. If you miss out on TOC 1 then fail at TOC 2 that’d be a nightmare.
I'd be very interested in hearing about anyone being sacked 'for simple errors'. I don't think that happens nowadays.
As this thread is about union membership, were these people sacked because they weren't in a union or were they sacked despite being in a union?
Were they a first error or a...
As a manager in this industry I would encourage anyone to join a union. I work closely with the reps, sometimes we fall out. Sometimes they are 'instructed' from above to persue a particular avenue; as are we managers sometimes.
I like to think I am a fair person so if an employee 'is in front...
