A cracking first day on the South Coast for the Swanage Railway's Diesel Gala, a good line-up and sun to boot! Ta to NS and CS for transport and company, I don't reckon we did too back for 'northerners'...
Stars of the show, 20227 and 20189 standing out in ex-works LUL colours...
Royal plum 67005 working 1Q23 test train, conveying new NR DVT 82145, the train has been shuttling between Derby and Leicester for the past couple of days, and is seen on the approach to Long Eaton. Although the sun didn't quite shine it was bright enough to make the trip worthwhile...
Having originally planned a shot of the 20s towing the VEP to Swanage, I had to settle for a shot of the heritage unit shunting at Clapham after an electrical issue saw 20142/89/227 continue alone, hardly worthy of a photo! So here is 3417 is mint condition, drawing out of the sidings on a sunny...
A stunning, sunny bank holiday spent lounging by the lineside at the Severn Valley, with D1062 and D812 in service it was certainly not to be missed. For once the weather behaved impeccably all day, and as well as adding to my tan it vastly improved the photos...
D1062 kicked off proceedings...
66504 in Powerhaul colours on 4O55 from Leeds to Southampton, the sun went in at the wrong time as per normal! Too head on at Stenson for a second attempt...so here is the loco in ex-works condition at Duffield

D9009 with the Swanage loco convoy ex-Barrow Hill. The sun was shining and the original plan was to get 56301 with empty wagons for Chadd, after that shot went awry the only shot to be salvaged was D9009 + 33108 + 55019 + 37521 passing a sunny Toton...
I am about to bite the bullet and buy a Canon 5D III and a 70-200 f/2.8 to replace my 60D which has put in 18 months of good service and racked up a considerable shutter count!!
I'm pretty much set, and I do use my camera for a lot more than just rail. However, I would appreciate any...
A couple of 'loco only' workings today - 67005 route learning and D9009 with the MHR convoy. Certainly a long day for a couple of shots, and the weather certainly wasn't great, but it kept me out of mischief ;)
The royal skip departs Sheffield...
A couple of photos from this evening at Loughborough...not exactly great but a yellow 'ped' in just about sun was worth it!
60049 working a rather boring rake as 6L15 Toton to Whitemoor

31285 sitting in Derby Station Yard TnT 97303, a quick snap on my journey south!Certainly only a 'snap', but nice to see this loco with a lengthy train in tow...

A very long day 'up north'. The sun certainly wasn't on side but there was no lack of traction variety to photograph! It was a stupidly early start from home to get to Huddersfield for the shot of the first railtour, but I felt it was worth it for a 'different' shot, even with an unwanted pacer...
With the chance for some diesel action, it was across to the NYMR for another day of patchy sun! No 37518, but the 31 and 24 were out to play...
31128 on the 'mainline' with a train from Whitby

Steam in the form 61264...
Back to the Midlands today, and 56312 working empty box wagons down to Willesden ready for another DCR flow. Sadly my personal 'anti-56' cloud seems to be following me and it was a dull shot of the train thundering past Ashwell this afternoon...
Another rather spring-like day with the sun shining for a shot of the Wensleydale Rambler railtour, taking an EMT HST set to Redmire.
Here the train crosses the River Swale on the way up the branch

A rather colourful combo running down the MML this afternoon in the form of LUL-liveried 20227 and 20189. I don't mind the red and white colourschems, although a matching pair would have been nice ;)
Here the pair can be seen passing Meadow Lane, Loughborough...
More sun this evening, it would have been rude not to capture freshly repainted 66001 in DB house red working 6M88 sand from Middleton Towers. The gallery seemed rather pleased that the second attempt this week went better than Tuesday's effort with 6L15 bowling a full sun opportunity...
A few shots from the Midlands again today after a morning on the lineside :) It was a bit breezy on the bike making for some hard riding between locations but I reckon it was worth it...
67026 works the VSOE from Victoria to Chesterfield...
Just one from me today, I couldn't resist the chance of a sunny 60! I have been wanting to get 6E38 on record ever since I moved to the Midlands around 6 months ago, finally the long night are here and I reckon it was worth the wait LD
60054 in full sun passing Loughborough on petrochemicals...
Another 37 to finish off the day...'607 in a patch of sun with 1Z09 to Hither Green. I wasn't planning on going for this, but was pleased with the end result after thge sun put in the briefest of appearances!

A couple of test trains this morning on the MML. The sun was shining, the shorts have been broken out and I couldn't resist a bike ride for a couple of photos!
The more interesting of the two producing 37603/10 and bound for OOC...
