Electrification & Rolling Stock Cascade Impact Review

Sorry I slipped off on a tangent. I was referring to the refurbishment/overhaul of 'the six' prior to their release in May.

Electrification & Rolling Stock Cascade Impact Review

I was told last friday that 4 of the 319s have been completed to concur with this.

    Virgin Trains QUALIFIED Drivers

I notice Virgin have imposed the 2 year pay rise structure to full pay like many TOCs do with trainees (except Euston only 1 year once competent on routes and traction). Shame in a way. Still good pay mind.

    MOT Test for Trains?

I know at Northern the rolling stock has 'A exams' and 'B Exams' - with A obviously the very thorough exam where everything is checked. The 'B' exam is more frequent but less thorough. Edit - Sorry wrong way around. doh.

train driver with depots in the North West

Merseyrail aren't far behind Northern in terms of pay, and they have just secured a 3.7% pay rise with another to follow this year of similar size. Or there's ATW in Chester to consider.

    Engineering train derailment at Penrith

This is how I interpreted it. It's a little bit "grief junkie" for some to keep labouring the point - perceived correctly or otherwise.

    Northern Trainee Drivers

Internals don't get preference on a training course. The powers that be in HR who allocate candidates to slots have no feelings of loyalty or allegiance to other staff. Afterall, pushing through existing staff would mean that their current role would need filling quicker - so there's no logic to...

John Pugh fears for future of Southport-Airport service

You musn't have been for a while - only the short section between ApplyBridge and Parbold is still that bad since the renewals over the last few months.

John Pugh fears for future of Southport-Airport service

I know - I drive them there regularly. Im saying with new stock there will be enough 156/150s to cover the removed 142s  And I don't think some of the services "end up" in the hands of 142s - the MIA - Southport services at certain times of the day are planned as a 4-car 142 (which...

John Pugh fears for future of Southport-Airport service

Am I right in thinking that by his logic - the electrification between Manchester and WNW via Bolton will lead to a massive rolling stock change to EMU - which will then not be able to run on the branch line to Southport? If this is the case then I think he's overthinking how quickly things...

    Driver Earning Potential

Northern Rail Western side pay £31 p/h for rest day. Normal rate (£22.88 ish) Sundays + 2 hours.

    Class 15x doors question

Air definitely keeps doors shut on 150's. On 150/1 units the emergency door release valves are every other door - and to open the other doors one has to isolate the door air reservoir on the entire car before draining it to release the pressure and slide the remaining ones open.

    Driver Earning Potential

Is there a simple answer? I really don't think "I've heard some drivers earn 60-75k - is this true?" Can have a simple answer - i.e. yes or no. If discussion, debate and differing opinions bother you so much I think you'd better delete your account for the sake of your blood pressure :wink...

    Driver Earning Potential

Because when we're discussing earnings with figures like £75k - this has to be inclusive of overtime etc. So when 'not' discussion a basic salary why would anyone be interested in pre-tax earnings of anyone? Surely what one brings home after deductions is what interests people? Maybe not...

    Driver Earning Potential

I think the £60-£75k club is a bit of an urban legend to be honest (assuming the values above are after tax). I know some freight drivers get large 'Happy' Cheques at the end of the year due to the amount of hours they clock up between July and december having exhausted all their contracted...

Northern - qualified drivers need 3 years?

The only good thing about the 142 is the visibility. I find a little creativity with the seat in a 150 creates legroom - whereas you can't 'create' legroom in a 142 as the seating position is not very flexible (I feel like im sat in a deckchair). The seat backrest is bolt upright causing one to...
