Network Rail unable to close 'danger crossing' in Poole

It's the age old problem of the British public showing massive conceit, impatience and disregard for instruction and authority once again. NR should be rest-assured that the CCTV with exonerate them should any of these muppets get laid out by a train. Good on NR for fighting their corner on...

    142039

The unit will be re-entered into service immediately with: "Tested on depot. No fault found" written in the repair book.

would a spent drink driving ban effect your chances of becoming a train driver?

Mr Houston - you won't get a definitive answer on here. However, I suggest you google 'Rehabilitation of offenders act' and see what you make of it. I would think a drink driving conviction - at a punt - would not need to be declared after 5 years. Potential employers often try to catch people...

Train derailed at London Paddington 25 May 14

Unlikely to be track spread - as a low speed spread would result in the bogie sitting in between the rails, and not, as in this case where one side is definitely outside and the other is presumably in.

Grimmest, most dismal approach to a station?

I'll second Liverpool Lime Street. Damp, dank, murky, litter-strewn - with age old looking signalling covered in moss and grime. The steady descent when you arrive, and the climb out towards the 'light at the end of the tunnel' when leaving are only too apt - in a metaphorical sense. I love it...

    Bolton Log Train

Not 'those' ballast wagons. They'll be there forever. It was the ones that were ditched following the hot axle box problem late last year (I think) :)

    Bolton Log Train

This train was still there today at 13:20 hrs - although the loco was running and there were about 6 blokes in orange dayglo stood next to it (clocked the driver in his colas vest - the rest were Network rail I think). On my return journey through Bolton at about 15:30hrs the train was heading...

    Recruitment Ongoing

Without checking all the respective websites - which im sure you've already done - if they have stopped recruiting at the moment it may well be down to it being the start of the financial year for them all, and a few TOCs (such as Northern) as only just been granted their franchise extensions to...

    Industrial action in the North

We are trained to pull points (as hard as it is) and set roads... part of an assessment early on. We can also split units and them back together again. We call it coupling and it happens regularly.

    Industrial action in the North

Yes absolutely disgraceful trolling and not just an opinion. Clearly you're an intelligent being who 'lol' smilies at the end of posts ironically.... p.s. it's 'you're'.. not 'your'. My point is no other grade has demanded a higher recognition. I find it slightly conceited that this grade think...

    Industrial action in the North

They want more pay for filling the trains full of diesel and water and 'not' doing full preps properly. I hope Northern don't give in...

    First Group and Northern Rail

Pay, Traction, routes and Terms and conditions aside - the majority of the 'old hands' at Northern who worked under FNW regularly say that First are not a 'people company' and do not treat their staff well. However, if TPE were to have the same working week pattern as Northern: im willing to...

Northern and living outside 60 minutes

Unfortunately the temptation to stay put and just commute a long distance every day will be too much for some people - and then when the proverbial hits the fan because a driver is fatigued from his or her week of long distance driving: questions will be ask of Northern's policy on distance to...

Priv journey "through" london with a maltese cross

Yea that seems to work on BR fares. I think i'll opt for Kentish Town -> Battersea Park, then Battersea Park -> Kentish town on the return leg but walk to Embankment to board. Hopefully that'll work. £1.45 per journey!

Priv journey "through" london with a maltese cross

Hi folks. I'm travelling to London Kings Cross Friday afternoon, where I shall be jumping on the LU circle line to Temple. On Saturday I want to make the reverse journey but to Euston via the Northern Line from Bank. I am a PRIV card holder, and I am aware of a few cheeky ways to travel...

Daily Mail: train cancelled whilst guard is in sainsburys...

You need a good union mate so you're stopped being treated like a b**ch.. This is 21st Century London... not Dhaka.

    Northern roster

The pay tiers are for trainee drivers only. If you're transferring in as a qualified driver - then the pay I believe is about the £44.5k mark after 3 months. And as people have stated - Sunday is inside the working week.

When was the last time Grand Central recruited?

They advertised for drivers about 2 or 3 months ago. Unsure of the other types of job however!

    Metrolink Job Fair - 27 Feb 14

You've just experienced the modern day 'job fair'. With the current economic and employment climate the way it is (and has been for a decade) - there is no reason any company or employer would go out of their way to try and secure interest from potential employees. All the hard work falls into...

    Northern Rail- Wigan and man

The old dingy training room is upstairs on platform 4. The lucky ones will get the new refurbished 'First Class Gentlemens Waiting Room' on platform 1/3.
