Apologies if this has been covered earlier in the thread: I flicked through it but couldn't see anything. Do we know what the intended formation of the new trains will be? Is the same two 8 coach "half sets" as at present? And will the FTW lounge and seated coaches still be added/detached at EDB?

I'm sure "Glasgow QS comes 56th out of 2,500 (or whatever the exact number is) UK railway stations" wouldn't have made such an alluring headline. But it is a nonsense to include a station that's in the midst of a complex refurbishment, and which is served by a single operator which has come in...

Isn't it just the old problem of "crying wolf"? Most of what comes out of VTEC customer service is trite, superficial, fake and deflectional. When there is actually something personal and sincere being said, it's hard to spot in amongst all the corporate bluster.

Hypothetical question, but one I'd rather get input to before it happens for real. I have a Senior Railcard, my partner has a Disabled Person's Railcard. I book us a journey on the VTEC website, entering both railcard details, but when the tickets are printed off they BOTH say "Disabled". Now...

Is there a reason they make the seated passengers transfer via the platform? I'd always imagined that the transfer would have been done by walking down the train corridors: couple up the Fort William portion, move the passengers, pull off the spare seated coach and lounge car.

If I use the VTEC website I can buy a through (advance first) fare from Kings Cross to Inverness leaving KGX at 1500, arriving EDB 1918, and then departing EDB 1942 on a Scotrail service. That's a 24 minute connection time, and the 1942 is the last train of the day from EDB to INV. Yesterday...

I too would have thought SSR to Euston Square and walk, but interestingly the LUL journey planner gives a quicker trip time via Oxford Circus (15 mins) than via Euston Square (19 mins). It is a long trek at Oxy Circ, but as someone has pointed out, it does keep the whole journey under cover...

I agree! If one started with a blank sheet of paper, I would love to see a design for a sleeping cabin that could very quickly be converted into a private "day cabin" (bed becomes sofa etc.), a feature often offered on ferry services but so far not on the UK rail network. I could imagine...

I think the problem with this system is that it has no clear identity of purpose. Is it a tourist attraction - or is it a commuter link? If it's a tourist attraction then it needs to be marketed as such, the fare is very reasonable, and people should stop whingeing about how many commuters...

Delighted to see that Scotrail's emergency timetable for tomorrow includes 8 services each way stopping at my local station, Carrbridge, instead of the usual 5. May the bad weather continue if that is what it takes!

I think you answered your own question in the rest of what you wrote! Providing "best service" and "following company policy" are rarely the same thing. Oh that they were. Plus, whether following company policy or not, it doesn't hurt if you do it with a smile on your face.

Quite frankly, I don't see how the "same sex" policy is sustainable in this day and age. As a straight guy I'd feel far safer sharing with a lesbian female than a gay guy! Maybe they need to start asking for orientation rather than just gender - or of course come into the 21st century and...
