I think this a euphemism for a train being held to allow a connection to be made. How that then rippled through to a cancellation would depend on the consequences of the late running of the held train.
My partner finds the "go on, give us a smile" on the toilet mirrors offensive in the extreme. As a medical professional, she's regularly dealing with patients suffering from depressive illnesses and their sometimes dreadful consequences. As she comments, "how dare anyone presume to know what...
Thanks for the comments. As I said at the start, I'm really not fussed for the sake of £6. My next similar cross London journey has a much longer onward leg and I do have paper tickets already purchased, but let's hope lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.
Yesterday I made a journey from Scotland to Kings Cross on a prebooked advance ticket with VTEC. As the arrival into Kings Cross was 2h45m late, I've submitted a delay repay claim.
I don't actually intend to do any more, on a value-versus-hassle basis, but my continuing journey involved a...
Yes, and we were actually being delayed by the presence of the 1E16 by the time we reached Peterborough, although a couple of other stopping trains were moved out of our way.
Well, I now have a possible answer to my original question. The VTEC site is mentioning a signal failure at YRK. As we had already passed the points from where an alternative route could be set, we may have been "trapped", whereas the following train could still be found a path. So there may...
Do I just have a nasty suspicious mind? Currently sitting on the 1Z15 (replacement service 1230 Edinburgh to King's Cross) outside York, which is actually the delayed 1E13 (0755 Inverness to King's Cross, due to leave Edinbugh at 1130 and placed at Edinburgh into the path of the also delayed...
Over the past few years fares have gone up and up, while the standard of catering and other aspects of the service have fallen. "Oh, look how marvellous we are" does nothing for me.
I'm going back about ten years, but used to travel regularly (in first class) and was well-known to the crew. I wasn't pleased when one of them started referring to "the plebs" by which he meant the second class sleeping customers - heaven knows what he referred to the seated passengers as...
I don't think the timekeeping is anything to worry about. There is a lot of slack in the timings in order to allow the inevitable delays to be caught up, and to ensure you have a sensible departure and arrival time. I see the 1S26 was a minute early into GLC against the working time table and...
I had this very discussion in relation to my latest delay repay claim! It would depend whether it was I or my employer who was inconvenienced by the delay. If I was unable to work when I should have been, and I was still being paid for my time, or my employer had to reschedule a meeting or...
I suppose it largely depends on what "some days" means. Buying the MKT/LST season ticket would seem to the best bet as there wouldn't be a problem in getting out at SRA. Is it worth buying a season for the Zone 3 travel through, or just using contactless/oyster PAYG?
This is like the conversation I had yesterday with a representative of a household appliance manufacturer who are going to replace a defective part on my vacuum "as a good will gesture". A good will gesture required under the terms of the warranty, presumably, but "it's covered by your...
I have some sympathy with the suggestion of the system being changed to be on a "per ticket" basis. In fact it's only recently that I've come to understand that that *isn't* how it works and that responsibility for connections applies across the whole journey (provided minimum connection times...
It would have made the fleet fractionally less flexible, but I would have thought the payoff in terms of shunting (passengers and carriages) would be worth it. Agree that the walk is unlikely to bother any of the seated car customers, but the more complicated the shunting and the more wandering...
Thank you both: good points about "per journey" vs. "per ticket". I've recently bought tickets for a journey from the ECML to Dorset using VTEC tickets from the VTEC site and SWRail tickets from the Scotrail site (because it's easier to use than either of the others). It will be interesting to...
Agree the point about the Euston (and possibly other locations) length limitation. But there could perhaps have been a solution along the lines of hybrid seated/lounge cars for the FTW and ABD portions without changing the overall capacity or length.
Thanks for that. Pity that the opportunity has not been taken to sort out what are probably the two least satisfactory aspects of the "Highlander" operation (the shunting and the foot transfers).
