For interest, the track is planned to commence reinstatement on March 23rd, when trains start running again (April 4th ) this conversation will subside like a spring tide
Whereas I would live to see the Okehampton route open again, after seeing first hand the design of the work on the main washout site, there will never be a breach at that particular location ever again, so why not over a period of time reconstruct the sea wall and formation to a similar design...
I'm not a signalling person but I'm fairly sure there is no mini panel in Newton Abbot or Totnes, however lthere is normal signalling from Newton Abbot westwards

Just to clarify, it used to be double track, but by the time the bypass had been constructed the line had been singled to Meldon, from memory (and I may be wrong on this) I think the construction of the flyover had to still assume the potential for double track

Nostalgically reopening the Okehampton route would be great, I understand the comment reference the economy of rebuilding on an existing old route but why discount the old Teign Valley line as a diversionary route.
All power, signalling and fibre cables were manually severed after the washout. The fibre was rerouted via BT down to Penzance and back up to Newton Abbot. New cables are being run out as we speak utilising a temp scaffold bridge over the washout.

No it's not I can remember working on 3 serious breaches in 1986 and 1992 between Parsons and Teignmouth, the big differences then was we were able to move quicker to fill in the breeches quickly with block stone and preventing the up line from being washed out
I understand that but I'm trying to tell you the on site programme is March27 for trains running, so whether some politics are involved I don't know but I know what I've seen.
