My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

Why? It's not like the exorbitant fare money is disappearing from thin air, it's just being spent on other things that attract different taxes. Trains should be a public service. Then ticket machines will still be available - enter your start and end points and choose an itinerary from the...

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

I think the underlying premise is good but I would go about it a different way: 10p per mile for the distance from the start station to the end station, as the crow flies (it isn't the commuters fault the line isn't more direct). 5p extra for first class, 5p extra for journeys starting, ending...

    Smoking on the train.

Had a 15 minute delay on Thameslink the other week when some idiot managed to set off the fire alarm with his vape cloud at 100mph on the ECML fast, moaned to his mate on the phone about being delayed, and then hid the device just before the driver had finished walking the 12 carriages back to...

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

Ok so if a break of journey at destination is valid then that goes back to my original question - are there (m)any other examples where this is valid?

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

So is the consensus that as soon as I decide to get off at Luton I have automatically changed routes for a negative excess that is automatically valid, and that invalidates the via London portion and prevents further ticket use, and would also promote some hilarity from the staff I told I was...

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

I think it was possibly late at night after the Corby's had ended or were at least sparse southbound and I was routed back via TL.

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

That is odd - I did the same journey but via Chesterfield once previously and the journey planner routed me via STP rather than Kettering. How can that not violate the no doubling back rule but still be published? Is it because West Hampstead and Bedford are both routeing groups for Luton?

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

So if I happened to take one of the very rare Nottingham Luton direct trains then that automatically invalidates my ticket even if I didn't know it stopped at Luton, because I can't go to London without doubling back and can't get off at Luton without not going to London? 1681227934 How can I...

"Valid only via London" & break of journey at destination & without resumption?

I had occasion to travel on an off peak return from Luton to Manchester today and the ticket was "Valid only via London" with restriction code 9I also applied. £114.70. I have always assumed that I able equally able to travel via the MML + WCML or MML + pennines. I have based this on MAN-SHE +...

    The worst train today?

I'm not arguing that's not the reason, but it doesn't have to make me like the effect it causes. The question was the opposite of your favourite train, not what was the least advanced. I'm sure someone could have found a solution that didn't cause this, but I digress. Completely OT: how many...

    The worst train today?

I would describe them as a wannabe IET (and that's not a good aim). Yes I was spoiled with the 90's and I'm sure that's clouding my vision to a certain extent, but to sum up my thoughts: Raised seats are stupid - you feel like you are swaying on curves. They are plain and soulless. The seat...

    The worst train today?

Up there is the 360 that should be 12 car with a refurb but often is just 4 car with a paint job. All of greater Anglias new stock is terrible. The crossrail trains are just fugly, lack of toilets and plugs terrible, and seating appalling, although the journey times across London save it from...

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

I would still query where the information that there were 2 158's involved has come from, or that they have split? Given the number of photos available and taken from within the tunnel, it is at least mildly surprising that no photos of this other unit have appeared.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Is there a source for this, other than this thread? From the available photos, it shows that the rear of the SWR train is sticking out roughly 1 carriage further than the GWR train, the 3 visible SWR carriages are all still coupled or at least together, and the front of the 2 trains are roughly...

So... been checking this thread for a couple of weeks before my lowlander trip and getting up hope with reports of much smoother running. And now the start of boarding time has come and gone with the train stuck in Wembley due to loco problems...
