    Timetable booklet PDFs.

No, just good luck! Some of the company offerings are pretty dire. Last time I looked at Arriva they had given up altogether.

    Isolated, and Very Isolated, railways

The connecting line, for stock transfers and goods, used to run through the streets of Linz so presumably the tram-train will follow these? Another very isolated line that springs to mind is in Romania, from Oraviţa to Anina. It was part of the standard gauge network but the connecting line to...

    Trouble with Screenwash Nozzles

Or a spouse, after all that's what they are for isn't it? I'm sure there's something in the marriage vows about helping with nozzles.

    Stagecoach South & South East

Well, it's only 2tph and not very well spaced, but the point stands. A #9 service has been on and off over the years, and often required a connection at Sarre, so it was clearly the minor partner to the #8 group to Margate which serves a larger population (Bircchington etc.). In my view...

    Stagecoach South & South East

The 34 has a 20-minute stand at Margate for most of the day. The 32 halved the frequency to Garlinge (15>30 mins) in June 2024, and to Minnis Bay (30>60 mins) plus forcing the latter's passengers to suffer the detour round Garlinge. These and other features of the 2024 cuts make me think these...

Trivia: shortest train journey crossing a national border (both within the UK and abroad)?

Ungheni (Moldova) to Ungheni Prut (Romania) is about 1.5km, shown as 2km in public timetable.

Bus services that require reversing (except in bus stations)

Four more en-route reversals in Kent come to mind: Regent Coaches 667 at Chartham Hatch, Stagecoach 1X at Chilham, Felborough Close, Stagecoach 11 at Wickhambreaux, and Stagecoach 976 (all that's left of the old 123) at Egerton Forstal.

    Stagecoach South & South East

It looks like there will be a combined mayoral authority to cover strategic issues like transport (as in Surrey). Didn't Stagecoach recently receive BSIP funding to restore the (Thanet) Loop to 7.5bph? And at the very same time halve the frequencies to Garlinge and other estates? They now...

Bus services that require reversing (except in bus stations)

As mentioned upthread, there are plenty around on rural bus routes across the country. One particular nasty one was on the double-run to Kingston-near-Lewes where a 5-point turn was required in Southdown days. The 123 is now run by Compass Bus and I don't know if a better location has been...

UK Street design and street furniture, do you like how it’s changed over the years? Why? Why not?

Totally agree. They are not effective. They either have a too narrow area of view, or do not allow pedestrians to cross fully before the lights change. Or both. Zero reassurance indeed, and I think they are actually dangerous.

Bus services that enter private property (except shopping centres/supermarkets/works only)

Well, most bus stations, railway station forecourts, airports, hospitals etc. are private property but I guess the OP was not including these either. Metrobus 100 passes through a barrier to access the Perimeter Road at Gatwick Airport. Metrobus 430/435 used to pass along a private road and...

Things which cause bus boarding/alighting to be slower now than 40 years ago.

Another reason for buses in continental Europe having multiple doors is that there, very often, the driver has no revenue protection responsibility; passengers are often allowed to enter and leave by any door. In this country it is rare, even in London where the ticket responsibility is...

TRIVIA: Stations where a high proportion of doors remain closed due to Selective Door Opening

That one's a puzzle; is it because it has to match the up platform for some reason? It's a pain for the guard to have to keep calling passengers right down the platform.

    Stoke-on-Trent Station.

It's a rather fine building, as is the North Staffs Hotel opposite. I hope it gets the TLC it needs.

    Alcohol confiscation SouthEastern

Not going to add to needless speculation here, but I do understand that SouthEastern Enforcement Officers have additional powers compared to those of other TOCs, including arrest and manhandling of persons. Confirmation welcome; this came from one of them I was talking to some tears ago.

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

But it absolutely isn't, because there are few or no turnback facilities to be used in the event of (currently far too frequent) disruption. Somehow the operation has to be rationalised, hence my rather flippant comment. All well above my competence, but I'll continue reading this thread in...

Bus Fare Cap will be £2 from January

There are plenty of all these scenarios round here (steep hills, mums with kids etc., rat runs) and I don't live out in the sticks. Also massive on-pavement parking that makes pushing a buggy pretty much impossible. Many kids are too young to walk a mile. I don't think your social engineering...
