Read the "Career as a signaller" thread. Every question you could ever need answering is in there. It really is the most useful resource for everything about the job...possibly on the internet.
You never can tell if the interviews have happened or not, externally it seems. You just have to wait till they update the system saying "Unsuccessful".
On the other hand there can be big delays so never give up. I applied for a Grade 2 last October and did not get called for interview until...
As a bonus, also maybe mention that the other person may not have realised they were doing anything unsafe. So by pointing it out you can learn from it, to score nicely in the learning outcomes of the situation for example...
As others have said. Definitely prepare well with scenarios of a time when you showed this skill, or that competency that is essential to your specific job role. Cannot emphasise enough being properly prepared, your competition will likely be stronger than you expect.
Also consider other potential roles on the railway too. I started off wanting to be a train driver but failed the MMI once. Then learn't more about other roles and applied and got a signalling role.
I am not trying to talk you out of it of course! Just saying that most seem to come wanting to...
Hi signal2112.
I have had many applications even for lower grades where it stated I never reached the required benchmark or my CV was not up to spec. Yet I was getting interviews from Grade 2 to Grade 6 as well. I would not read too much into it, I would recommend just applying to EVERYTHING...
Hi daveclarke. For this position I found out approximately 2 weeks after the interview. For the other one it was a bit faster, about just over a week from interview to being informed via email.
I have previously had unsucessful interviews too and they ranged from an email weeks later to a call...
Well, happy days just been informed I have got a Grade 4 position in a ROC.
Apparently may be starting signalling school as soon as end of July for this one, so is anyone else booked in for York signalling school for around the end of July? Would be cool if others off here will be attending at...
With regards to Borocarl88's questions:
Mine fortunately has just gone very quickly. Got an email informing that I was successful at interview, mailed back the forms same day, got Formal Offer pack email two days later! Just had medical and it was less than a week since getting the Formal Offer...
They should have less but I had lost out several times to internal candidates, moving from other boxes that were closing down. Was always told I was pipped "by one or two marks" at the interviews in both cases! ;)
Same as choochoo for me, just an email stating they would like to keep you as reserve and to reply to the email to let them know its okay. I never got a call or another email about that vacancy it just turned to "Unsuccessful" on the website and that is it.
I was in the same boat for a previous interview I had. I eventually only found out after about 3 weeks when it went to "Unsuccessful" on the website. Did not get a phone call or email telling me, other than that!
Just another person piping up to say a huge "thank you" to everyone who has added to this thread with hints and tips. I have just finally bagged a Grade 2 signaller role after a long application process and MANY applications and interviews.
Genuinely, I think the information on this site and...
Just got a letter today, it is a no go for me I failed the MMI. I sat it two months ago, I rang HR on Tuesday, got letter today.
Slightly mystified as to why it has taken 2 months when they know it was a definite no and they would have known within a week off the OPC. Would it not have been...
Choo13 are you attempting to join Heavy Haul or Intermodal? The order in which you have stated appears to be for Intermodal that's why I ask, I wasn't aware of an interview being first for Heavy Haul?
Well I had my stage 2 at the end of July and have not heard anything since, no date for an interview or a rejection letter/phone call/nothing.
I think I might cave in and finally call as I have a sneaking suspicion I must have missed a rejection phone call, or a letter didn't turn up etc...
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
