    May 2021 Timetable Change

This is likely to happen, and has been a long term plan for many years now. The date has never been set in stone but looks like it will finally happen with various new fleets and cascades finally taking shape.

Thameslink London Bridge Last Train - Too Early?

I’m not going to entertain the arguments but for clarity... The Thameslink paths are booked via Selhurst overnight due to section 4 opportunities in EAS via London Bridge. That said, there are section 5 blocks every other week of the route via Selhurst (be that blocks of the Selhurst corridor...

    May 2021 Timetable Change

I think it’s worth bearing in mind that in reaction to the pandemic the industry has moved to four timetable interventions a year, rather than two. Timetable changes that were previously in May and December of each year will now be March, May, September and December. The scope of each change...

    May 2021 Timetable Change

The Letchworth to Peterborough moves etc are mainly for route retention of Kings Cross and Hitchin drivers north of Hitch to Peterborough, as well as Letchworth CSD and Hertford North CHS. With 2m social distancing in place, route refreshing in a cab is pretty restricted and so any drivers...

    Class 717 speed up-rating (85 to 100mph)

Up-rating the 717s maximum speed has nothing to do with 717s covering long distance services - it was being investigated prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are no intentions to replace 387s/365s with 717s.

The 379s are spoken for elsewhere.

    Huntingdon bay platform one

The bay is of little to no use these days. 8 car 387s and 8 car 700/0s are not cleared to use it due to signal sighting issues.

8-car services to King's Lynn after completion of platform lengthening work

From December the significant majority of trains to Kings Lynn will be 8 car 387. It will become the norm, rather than the exception. There will be one or two 4 cars still, as that person notes, but this will be at start/end of the day. Great Northern will be leasing one more 365, too.

Drop in passenger numbers sees train services cut

I’m told GTR are to run a Saturday service from Monday.

Drop in passenger numbers sees train services cut

There is some debate within the railway industry as to what contingency timetable to implement- each TOC/FOC seems to have a different view and for good reasons! DfT and RDG are not helping the situation either. It’s looking as though a Sunday service 7 days a week will be implemented very soon...

Brighton Mainline & Branches Route Knowledge

Nobody should sign Lewes anymore (apart from the aforementioned BD drivers who do), 1T certainly don’t. 1T have also lost their route knowledge of Preston Park Sidings and Brighton Down Sidings.

Brighton Mainline & Branches Route Knowledge

Not quite correct. For Thameslink, drivers that sign Blackfriars to Three Bridges (via Streatham or via London Bridge and Sydenham or via London Bridge and Peckham Rye) are: Bedford Brighton Cambridge (limited) Horsham Luton (also sign via Crystal Palace, see below) Peterborough (limited)...

Heat related issues (25 July 2019 and subsequent days)

Within the past hour I believe 1C05 was signalled onto the closed up fast at West Hampstead and hit the damaged OHLE brought down yesterday afternoon. Lucky there was nobody working on it...

ECML closed PBO to KGX Aug Bank Holiday routing

For the avoidance of doubt, and for those who seem to have every knife and dagger aimed at the DfT/NR/TOCs at every opportunity possible... this has been planned thoroughly and the essentials are this: There have been comprehensive, well attended, sometimes terse and frank, thorough, honest...

    December 2019 Timetable Change

For Thameslink and Great Northern I have been told the following for December 2019... Midweek 2Cxx King’s Cross to Cambridge North will terminate at Cambridge (in the bays) all day. GA’s new stock does not fit in the bays (2Hxx ex-L’pool St), so must run through to Cambridge North but there is...

    GN Class 717

Second signal was moved successfully last night. The moving of signs at Moorgate is not instrumental in removing the need for a second driver, it was just convenient to do it.

    High and low level stations

One that hasn’t been mentioned yet is St Pancras, but it only really applies to GTR. Thameslink 99% of the time run through platforms A and B underground (the TIPLOC is even STPXBOX because it was literally built in a box underground). However, the platforms 1-4 above ground are also used by...

    ThamesLink at New Cross

There was a broken down train at Plumstead, so all Thameslink services diverted via Lewisham and Bexleyheath. All Thameslink drivers that sign the route to Dartford via Abbey Wood also sign the diversionary route via Bexleyheath - this is Gillingham (GH) drivers and Luton (LU) drivers, as well...

You most likely saw the driver training trips for Orpington (Thameslink) drivers into Victoria.
