    Manchester Metrolink master thread

Wow nice photos familyguy. Yes what are they planning on doing to restrict access to local people? Asking all passengers for a copy of their council tax bill?

    York Turntable

So how many working turntables are there owned by Network Rail then?

    Manchester Metrolink master thread

I note that the Metrolink line between Manchester and Droylsden will open on 11th February but BBC News explains that there will be "free travel to local people for three days ahead of the official launch". As it happening I'll be in Manchester on 10th February. I suppose it's a bit early to ask...

Big Stations with no Ticket Barriers

Don't all manned stations still sell platform tickets? I got one at Leeds a few months back. They didn't work the barriers though; had to show it.

    Special Offers Discussion

Did this work for anyone? I got an email with a QR code which I scanned with my phone and this now shows as 'REDEEMED'. However I don't actually appear to have any sort of code. This seems to be a far too complicated process.

    PlusBus Tickets

I wonder if it'd be possible to get off at Hebden Bridge and ask the person at the ticket off to sell you a 'Bradford' Plusbus ticket or similar? And I quote from http://www.plusbus.info/where-buy-station-or-online "Ask for PLUSBUS when you buy train tickets at any National Rail station ticket...

    Shrewsbury station

Why not just buy a platform ticket to be sure of not falling foul of the gates? That is one of the things they are for after all.

Bradford Interchange to Gatley 7 day season ticket

You've not really indicated where you may be traveling to Bradford Interchange from, nor how long you want the journey to take. Not that I really have any cheaper suggestions but it's interesting to note an off peak return from Huddersfield to Gatley is £11.50 and you could add a Hudds Plusbus...

    Stations with wooden platforms

Smithy Bridge is wooden as far as I can recall. It's in the style of the WY PTE stations mentioned above. I wonder if the original poster was really thinking about old stations which still were wooden say from the 1950s onwards, rather than newly (re)opened stations from the 80s and similar?

I did not know that, thank-you for replying.

    Huyton to Metrolink - puzzled

Is there a difference between the Metrolink machines which take banknotes and those that do not? Just wondering why you pointed that out. I usually pay for stuff by card.

Hmm does the posting from John Farrow imply someone died? That's terrible, if so.

Northern Rail - possible entrapment ?

Well actually I was quoting: I suppose I should have said "Just being annoyed with a G4S person would not get you a penalty fare or similar would it?"

Northern Rail - possible entrapment ?

Just being annoyed with a G4S person would not get you a penalty fare would it? I wonder, in spite of Northern's behaviour, have we actually seen any evidence of anyone getting a penalty fare when there was no way they could have actually bought a ticket? Or is the issue here the fact that...

3 Deltic convoy Hebden Bridge 25/09/2012

D9009 hauling 55002 and 55019 through Hebden Bridge on the way from the ELR to York. Didn't really get much good engine noise unfortunately, but it's a nice sight to see regardless I'd say. 1txbovCbeVc

First ever HST running onto the KWVR - direct from London.

    Thanks for this very helpful.

First ever HST running onto the KWVR - direct from London.

Getting back to the HST on KWVR. I realise maybe it's a bit early for details but I have a few questions which those in the know about all things K might be able to answer? 1) Is there an idea of the arrival time in Keighley? 2) Will it have travel to north west of Keighley having passed...

First ever HST running onto the KWVR - direct from London.

Well the ukrailtours page does say while the HST is parked up (I presume in Oxenhope) visitors will have time to "...travel on scheduled steam-hauled trains on the KWVR.". There is quite a long engine shed at Oxenhope (115m or so if Google Earth is to be believed) so maybe they'll shunt the HST...

First ever HST running onto the KWVR - direct from London.

Sounds an amazing event. Oddly enough I suspect Oxenhope's platform would take the full length of an HST. Certainly not the case for Damens though!
