I can confirm that any Southern station with a ticket office sporting Shere SMART terminal can and will do reservations, no SN station will refuse to sell advance tickets or reservations, each T/O offers the full range of available tickets except for perhaps some very very rare exceptions of...
It depends on the station's usage (annual footfall), the type (commuter etc) and dwell times etc.
If a station has a low footfall and maybe only mildly busy at peak times, having extra facilities like coffee stalls would not be viable. They would pay more in rent and set-up costs than they...
The largest station in terms of size on the TAT branch (except Tattenham itself) is Coulsdon Town (Smitham). The busiest station in terms of annual footfall and peak loadings is Woodmansterne.
But yes for the size of the CAT branch a much higher number of passengers use it, the two busiest...
Any TL stock that will serve either or both branches will most likely be 8 cars minimum on each.
Currently 8 cars are used individually on each branch for some morning and evening peak services (usually 377s), but these do not split/attach at Purley and use SDO for the branch stations.
I think...
I think that is the plan, eventually both CAT & TAT will run 6 coaches each possibly (which can be fully utilised on both branches without SDO) and then attach to form 12 coaches from Purley. Any 8 coach services in the evening peak including the TL stock will most likely just use SDO between...
Good point, but from what I've seen everywhere there is no intention of platforms being lengthened, in fact I saw somewhere it was not recommended by NR. Just that 8 coaches should be the minimum for the branches and using SDO for branch stations.
There are currently plans to increase both...
Yes, the Thameslink stock will be separate services and if Tattenham do not get any this will not apply anyway, but if Caterham were to also run VIC services they could still split/attach with Tattenham stoppers to reduce the paths.
Extra frequency such as 6tph (4 TL & 2 SN) would not...
Yes you are right sorry, it has been proposed either 2tph on each branch or 4tph on Caterham branch.
What I'm wondering is if the 2 branches are split with 2tph, would Caterham retain another 2tph to Vic to maintain the level of service currently running through Purley. I think the most recent...
Have there been any more documents released or proposals for service frequencies/patterns regarding the new Thameslink franchise?
Particularly I'm interested in the Southern metro area (my line being CAT). I've seen lots of suggestions/proposals for the service patterns here, the most common...
I have no idea, I used to live in Oxted and briefly worked on the stations in the area including Oxted itself, so am interested to know why this has been done.
I would imagine though it's probably to allow EGR shuttles during disruption or engineering works.
Have you tried asking any of...
Maybe they're electrifying the Uckfield line.... maybe not.
Or maybe they're preparing to electrify and re-open the Uckfield - Lewes route :D ... doubt it.
Perhaps so they can run East Grinstead shuttle services from Platform 3?
In all honesty I have no idea just throwing things out at random.
It depends where you travel from. The only 7-day season you can purchase at present without requiring a photocard is a 7-day Travelcard valid only within the London Fare Zones.
7-Day Travelcards valid from stations outside of the LFZ DO require a Photocard.
For example:
A 7-day...
I wouldn't imagine there is a set time frame for when this could happen, and AFAIK Go-Ahead would be better placed to have this done the fastest so I don't see why not.
I Imagine it would simply be a case of how long it would take to transfer the management of things over to the winning...
There's alot of discussion about who could potentially win the new franchise, but haven't seen many opinions on who should or people would prefer and maybe why?
I would say Go-Ahead but that's me being biased
TOCs do nothing to inform passengers of weekend engineering works.
(Apart from periodic announcements throughout the week, reminders on departure boards, notices on TOC sites and National Rail and Engineering Work posters in THE SAME location every week on stations.)
Yes, I don't know about other TOCs but Southern will offer you a face to face feedback session on your application and interview. They are usually very helpful and you can get to know what they are looking for and how to better approach the interview next time around.
Exactly the same here. I am a ticket office clerk.
Taking into account a few customers who quizzed me on not offering split tickets and deciding to try and make an example of me "not doing my job properly" in front of other customers at the station, I decided to try offering different split...
wessexen, It's not amounted to nothing. It's all experience.
I must say you are very passionate about wanting a position in the industry. I work for Southern and they are a great company to work for.
Don't think that it is something you are doing wrong or that there was anything wrong with...
